I haven't had a "shock" since Rick and crew destroyed the cannibals and that wasn't a shock of it happening as much as that they showed that much detail. The last "real" shock? Lori and the baby.400yrs wrote:caxiotis wrote:Just read walking dead 100 and am very happy. This was a great issue and no spoilers but it was awesome.
I'm not really sure how I felt about it. I think I'm just getting numb to it.
I really hope that Invincible goes in the other direction for issue #100.
I felt this way as well and sold my run back around 70 something issue, wish I would have waited due to the current prices. I do think Kirkman should cap this as a finite number of issues as the stories as mentioned are getting predictable.
There are things he could do to get out of that predictable mode, but we'll see. I think he could've done alot more with the safe zone storyline.
I read Planetoid #2. This is pretty dang good. I'll definitely get this in trade if I don't continue on with the issues.

I read the first issue of Planetoids and thought it was a compelling read. I expected it to get mired in a lot of scifi cliches, but I never felt like it did. I'll probably continue with this series.

As of now I'm reading just the new Valiant titles and IDW's TMNT--canceled the last of my DCnU books a few months ago!

Re: What comics are you reading now?
FF Vol 3--Hickman's absolutely killing it! (and I mean that in a good way). Val's character is showcased and is front and center in this tpb. It's brilliantly written in such a way that you look back afterwards and think to yourself "okay, that's what was going on there and there and there, etc.". I love the small flashbacks every issue and although the artwork is a little off putting, I think it actually works for this story since Val and the kids are featured. When you read the FF, you want big cosmic stories and this has it all--alternate universes, Galactus, Celestials, Doom, alternate Reed, alternate Dooms and the Infinity Gauntlet. Needless to say, I think Hickman's run has been amazing and if you haven't been reading the FF books, you should be!
This book was so cool, I'm reading it again and there's few books I read right now that actually make me do that.

I've only read one issue of Reed Gunther, but I loved it. I have the Vol 1 trade to read too at some point. This video from the Houghton bros (the creators) is hilarious and it's alot like the book. Check it out!

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I'm on a bit of a slowdown at the moment with comics (the Steam sale probably didn't help) and have decided to drop a few:
Aquaman - I enjoyed the first arc as it was straight forward action but the second arc has been Johns trying to create a vast mythology around the Aquaman title (ala GL) but it isn't working for me.
Fables - My longest running series. I keep reading hoping it will get better but honestly I've got very little interest in where the book has gone as of late. I loved when the series had the premise of the Fables hiding in plain sight with the city and dealing with the characters that were around then... now I have very little interest in the vast extended cast.
Suicide Squad - Dropped last month, just not enough to keep me interested.
Swamp Thing - Will be dropped after the Animal Man crossover is finished, since the change of artist it hasn't been the same for me and doesn't have the same power it did.
Worlds Finest - only hit 2 issues but dropped, pretty poor.
JLI- Final issue tomorrow and no real loss (apart from Booster not being in any books now
)
I will be looking to drop some more, probably from the new 52 and the few Millar books I have been picking up. I'll also be glad when Before Watchmen is finished as it's also taking up a large part of my pull list (despite some of it being good - Comedian, Silk Spectre and Ozymandis have been cool).

I've slowed down reading as well. I have a stack of books from July that I haven't read yet and haven't really felt the urge to do so either.
I feel the same about Aquaman and dropped it, but I did read #11 and it was good. This is a book that I'll pick up out of dollar bins. I've only read up to issue 9 on Swamp Thing, but that's disappointing to hear.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I read the Saga of the Swamp Thing Vol 1 by Alan Moore. Wow. This is a classic for sure. The first several issues were phenomenal. The stuff with Etrigan was good as well. Where I've been struggling to get through Starman, I didn't want to put this down.
Anyone know if the later volumes (2 and on) are as good as this?

It's another series I've stupidly decided to read in singles... I've got about 100/170... basically I'm never going to get to read it. Admittedly I have read some odd issues and theres some phenomenal stuff there.400yrs wrote:I read the Saga of the Swamp Thing Vol 1 by Alan Moore. Wow. This is a classic for sure. This is definitely something I want to buy in collected edition for the shelf for easy access.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Captain Marvel #1 Carol Danvers, the former Ms. Marvel, reluctantly takes the name of the still dead Kree super-hero and gets a new costume (and maybe some new powers). The artwork is nice but the story doesn't explain why she changed her costume. This feels like Marvel's attempt to do a Batwoman like character (a former military woman with superpowers trying to find a reason to serve minus the lesbian aspect). The Absorbing Man's dialogue is really corny (in a bad way) and Captian America comes off as kind of a jerk in the fight with the Absorbing Man.
Given the track record of the previous Captain Marvel series from Marvel if this series makes it too #25 I will be surprised.

I haven't read the issue, but I hate the costume change, hate the cropped hair cut, and from what I read, I don't like the direction they are taking her in.Cyberstrike wrote:Captain Marvel #1 Carol Danvers, the former Ms. Marvel, reluctantly takes the name of the still dead Kree super-hero and gets a new costume (and maybe some new powers). I like the costume and the hair cut, I just found it a little confusing (also I'm not all that familar with the character) and I think it's way too early to see if the direction they're taking her in is good or bad.Lightning Strike wrote:I haven't read the issue, but I hate the costume change, hate the cropped hair cut, and from what I read, I don't like the direction they are taking her in.Cyberstrike wrote:Captain Marvel #1 Carol Danvers, the former Ms. Marvel, reluctantly takes the name of the still dead Kree super-hero and gets a new costume (and maybe some new powers). Swamp Thing #10. I usually love Francesco Francavilla's art, but this is the wrong book for him. I hope DC realizes that and this was just a fill in issue. Just because an artist is great doesn't mean he is great on any book.

Not read it yet but not sounding good. It's pretty unfortunate that Yanick Paquette couldn't stay on the book.400yrs wrote:Swamp Thing #10. Re: What comics are you reading now?
I usually save up stuff to read(some of it I've been saving for a decade), but I picked up a bunch of tpbs recently so I've been going to town when I have time, which hasn't been much.
Read the first 3 CHEW tpbs, Not quite up to adding to my favorites or collecting the issues, but I did like it and it was fun enough that I'll keep getting the tpbs when I find them cheap enough. The new Poyo comic did catch my attention though... so I might pick that one up if its still in my lcs.
Picked up Walking dead Compendium tpb(1-48), liking that so far 1/4th the way through which is saying a lot since I'm not much of a zombie story fan.
Read the first few tpbs of Ex Machina, really liking it, but put reading the rest on hold until I finish the Walking dead compendium.
Other than that the only thing I've read recently has been new Valiant and Saga, loving both.
Top of list of to be read next(not previously mentioned):
Fables vol 16 on.
Bone
Black Panther (Christopher Priest Run)

I had v.2 of bone for about 2 years and never read it... my little sister (11) came to visit on the weekend and I gave it to her. By the time they'd driven home she'd read it all and said it was great... maybe I should have read it.

But Carol Danvers has been a military woman and a Marvel character for 40 years. I don't think Marvel is stealing anything from Batwoman.Cyberstrike wrote:Captain Marvel #1 Carol Danvers, the former Ms. Marvel, reluctantly takes the name of the still dead Kree super-hero and gets a new costume (and maybe some new powers). Also, the last Ms Marvel title lasted til issue 50 or something. I'm sorry, but I was glad the last couple of cloned/son Captain Marvel got cancelled, that series was just whack. I am not sure, but Peter David was smoking something potent for those series.
