I used to have a complete GL set from the late 80's/early 90's through about the middle of 2000. I, for one, never minded Kyle Rayner, once he replaced Hal Jordan. Reading the work Marz did on GL and what he did on XO, it's like there were two different people behind the keyboard.h-comics wrote:Anything Green Lantern at the moment.

It's no big secret that f**king that I hate Hal Jordan as a Green LanternJustCallMeAric wrote:xodacia81 wrote:I used to have a complete GL set from the late 80's/early 90's through about the middle of 2000. now as Pallax (or however it was spelled) and The Spectre I actually I liked him because he was a bad a$$ villain and then as a man who knew who knew he had a made a horrible mistake and tried his best to make amends.
But the reason that I hate Hal Jordan was because of no matter who wrote the character weather it was Denny O'Neil, Ron Marz, or even that silver-age fanboy hack Geoff Johns Jordan either came off as a big dumb guy or a super right space cop. Even John Stewart and Guy Gardner (and Gardner I really HATE) come off with more personality that Jordan ever has. Jordan is quite simply dull as dirt as the Green Lantern.
Personally turning evil, killing him, bringing him back as the Spectre was off the second best move DC has done in the last 15 years. Because then he was interesting.
The first being giving Robin a new suit that is one costume change that was long overdue. The old one no one can make that thing look cool not Bob Kane, Jim Lee, Frank Miller, Jim Aparo, Neal Adams, George Perez, no one can not make that look cool.

Brath is pretty good - kind of like one of those History Channel episodes in comic book form.dave wrote:hey veen, i was gonna start meridian too, but instead i picked brath (decided ot go alphabetically so i can keep track easier)
i've wanted to read meridian for some time...

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

If you liked those you should read the BPRD trades too, they're really good.JustCallMeAric wrote:Just read the 1st 2 Hellbooy trades. They are a fun read. I always thought the character looked stupid so I never checked it out. A few months ago my wife wanted to see the movie so we went and she loved the character. I got her the first 5 trades.

Brath was my second choice.
It will for sure be my next crossgen read.
I also have most of the R. A. Salvatore Crossgen books. I think I need the end of both series. Eye for an Eye and Demon wars (I think)
Also Solous looks interesting.

same here-i've got all of scion and ruse as well, so i really want to read those. i already read all of sojourn. brath was cool, but it is pretty sad to see where it ended-obviously in the middle of the story and even had the cover for the next installment at the end.
i'm starting to notice though, that having a strong woman lead was THE thing at crossgen. i thought it was cool to have several female leads, but every book? it's getting as bad as disney!

Scion is also on my list.
I was super bummed that Sojourn ended. That was one great book. Maybe the best visual book I've ever read.
I think they had a GREAT story, with an even better back story. And it was way cool to have the "good guys" without a sigil, but that bow was the top.
And one other thing...... they rarely resorted to making Arwyn nekkid. she almost always had clothes. Only a few times did they resort to ...chick-chicka-wah-wah.
I think it takes more skill and craft to have an appealing lead female character that is not wearing a *SQUEE*'s outfit.

I have those and they're beautifully illustrated by BWS. You've seen his work on Valiant, but can you see the difference in his early work and how much detail he put in it? He really changed his style over the years.Elveen wrote: 3 Dark Horse Conan trades that reprinted the O.G. R.thomas and BWS stuff
You know how I feel about Sandman---Gaiman at his best!Elveen wrote:6 Sandman TPBs
and now the 3 Planetary trades.
I've heard these were pretty good and I've been trying to find these myself. Unfortunately, they're not cheap.Elveen wrote:I have been trying to get a full Alan Moore run on Supreme.... but not finished getting them all yet, the same with CGW Ghost.

All of the Loeb/Tim Sale books are awesome! Superman for all Seasons, Batman Long Halloween, Dark Victory, etc. They're all great. But then, I'm a fan of Tim Sale.Elveen wrote:I have been looking for a cheap trade of Batman Long Halloween.....
Elveen, I would recommend the Walking Dead or Invincible.Elveen wrote:But I am kind of stuck.
I think I might read a Crossgen run........ maybe Scion or Meridian or Brath.... (but I'm not sure that I am complete on them either....)
I am kinda stumped.
Oh, and pm me your address, I have a TPB for you to read.

Meridian and Mystic were the only CG series I didn't read. Someday I might need to try Meridian again. I did enjoy the art on Meridian, but I dropped the book after the first few issues.Elveen wrote:I am reading Crossgen's Meridian.
I really like it. I have not read a book with a teenage girl as the main character. It is very different. I like all the supporting characters, and how they are each given an integral part in the main story.
Of course, it is visually amazing.
I am at about #15.

Scion is really cool. Negation is my favorite CG series, but I also liked Scion, Sojourn and the Waid written Ruse issues.Elveen wrote:dave wrote:same here-i've got all of scion and ruse as well, so i really want to read those. i already read all of sojourn. brath was cool, but it is pretty sad to see where it ended-obviously in the middle of the story and even had the cover for the next installment at the end.

That was the book that made Greg Land into a top artist.Elveen wrote:I was super bummed that Sojourn ended. That was one great book. Maybe the best visual book I've ever read.

I read the JSA: BLack Reign TPB last night and loved it so much I am seriously thinking about re-reading it already. I think it shows more realistic life and death in comic battles than any other comic I've ever read and they were battling amongst themselves. I also loved how it delved deeper into individual character's personalities, motivations, and flaws, adn danced on that "gray" line so well with so many parallel themes to present day.

I decided to wait on the Long Halloween (I want to read a few shorter things first).
I started on Batman: Run, Riddler, Run. So far...... mas or menos.
next will be the Grell Green Arrow Longbow Hunters.
but I will tell you, I enjoyed Meridian so much, I might just jump back into to some more Crossgen.
