I've had people die before.
The really nasty thing, of course, is that you're that winner say on Jan 14, and there's not a single neg....
Then you have a hole dropped into your stomach because you watch the next WEEK as neg after neg after neg piles up.
And there's not a damn thing you can do about it.
And yet....eBay suspends people because they have FOUR unpaid auctions from 1998-2002.
Oy.

Yeah, it means a lot on Wall Street, but it also meant a raising of fees so that the chances of "Bad" news in the future is less.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:It's outstanding because it is the very first BAD news eBay has posted in nearly 10 years. E-bay did not perform Poorly, they merely missed the Wall Street mark. I think that investors are overeacting. They only missed forecasts by one penny per share. Granted, companies are expected to outperform Wall Street predictions, but $.30 per share in the fourth quarter alone is nothing to shake a stick at. In addition, they are splitting stock, which is generally a sign of strength.
It looks like the reason that they raised fees is so that they can actually hit or out-perform the 2005 Wall Street Predictions. You may want to scream at Wall Street for its speculation which most likely caused the price increases instead of Ebay. If the expectations were more reasonable or more in line with the company's expectations, there probably wouldn't have been the price increases.
The thing that catches my eye in the report is the fact that the company had more than $20 million in extraordinary items. Strange for a company with no real front or inventory. Maybe I'll take a look at the financials to see what happened there.

But as you and I both know, eBay's SERIOUSLY hedging their bets against the future. If higher prices translates into better 'numbers' for earnings reports, they will appear to be 'healthier' to Wall Street and their stock will likely 'go up.'400yrs wrote:

But all the 'better numbers' in the world won't save a company if the HARD numbers....actual revenue....plummet specifically because of a (significant) price hike. And unmet earnings in the future will do all sorts of nasty things to eBay's stock.
Mom and Pop care not one whit about what eBay's board of directors and stock holders think is peachy keen...they want to know how much MORE they have to pay to use the same damn service.
That they've announced a 2-for-1, however, is generally very good news.

I have some interest as I got ripped off for $10.49 by this guy. I've got his contact information, the phone number given had an (866) area code which I think is a toll free #. I filed a complaint with Paypal, but I was wondering if I should go ahead and do the chargeback with my credit card company or wait to see if Paypal can get the money back for me. Paypal says if you do the chargeback with the card company, you have to cancel your claim with Paypal, so I wasn't sure if I should wait and see what they can do.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:But hey, I literally live next door to Glendale, if I cared, maybe I could get the address and check it out. Anyone on the board want to know?

Yeah, I'd do it for you BJ, but not for $10.49.Brother J wrote:I have some interest as I got ripped off for $10.49 by this guy. Wait to see what Paypal does, then file a chargeback if they don't work it out.

This is really the first time ever on eBay that someone has blatantly just skipped away with my money and not sent any merchandise. I guess I've been lucky because I suppose this kind of thing happens all the time. At least it wasn't someone selling Valiants.

Latest one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 2281399056
Paypal 'found that the seller was at fault, but could not recover any funds.'
I filed a chargeback, and have gotten my money back, BUT.....
This thief walked away with THOUSANDS of dollars, and nothing will likely happen to them.
Within my first two months on eBay, a seller walked away with $180 in a money order for Primer #2 and Grendel 1-3, NM, all signed by Matt Wagner.
Did I make eBay pay for that by not paying seller fees? You better believe I did. This was, of course, LONG before the days of 'insurance' and all the warnings and whatnot, and I, being a newbie, took eBay at their word that I was 'protected'.
Yeah. Uh huh.

I really did. After about a month of no contact, I finally get an e-mail, VERY hostile, stating 'my father died, he was selling these, and everyone's been so vicious, so BACK OFF!!!'X-O HoboJoe wrote:Man, that woulda been a sweet book to have, esp. at that price.
So, you've really had sellers die? I've not been through that town yet, hope I never go. Did their family contact you?
I tried to explain that 'I'm sorry for your loss, but please understand that we didn't know your father, this was just business, and the account 'went silent' for a very long period of time. What did you really expect?'
Of course, they couldn't be reasoned with. To them, all that matters is how THEY feel, despite the fact that there were money and items that weren't theirs that they were sitting on. Ah well.

everyone deserves some time to get over a terrible loss like that one, but part of being a grown up is "taking care of a loved one's affairs". Including honoring business transactions. Assuming money had already changed hands. IMHOZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:X-O HoboJoe wrote:Man, that woulda been a sweet book to have, esp. at that price.

When I was five, I dragged my dad into "Mike's Comic Hut"... If only I'd known..

Absolutely....and it's very difficult to be undertsanding and compassionate over e-mail especially with someone you don't even know, but over (in this case) a month with no contact, and in some cases up to 60 days, one's compassion starts to take a nosedive.Valiant OCD wrote:

If your father passed away on, say, Jan 5....by Feb 5, he's had his memorial, and been interred in whatever way he's going to be for several weeks already, and if he had a will, it's probably already been but in probate (unless it was uncontested.)
That's plenty of time to e-mail business associates (for that is what we all are, ultimately) and let them know what's going on, and A. refund their money, or B. send out their item(s).
I don't get it.... these are all the exact same auction, two get booted and two remain???????

I guess they didn't make 1-16, 23, and 25-43. Seeing how this is a "full run"

Not really a shame auction, but I like the condition it's in....
