40 issues of Green Lantern and the Green Lantern Corp from DC Comics. Green Lantern Rebirth #1-6 complete, Green Lantern #1-19, Green Lantern Corp Recharge #1-5 complete, Green Lantern Corp #1-12, and the Sinestro Corp One Shot 1st print for $38.
I only needed GLC recharge 5 and GLC 6-12 ( I am still looking for #13-15), but at that price the rest can be sold or trade bait.
I also got this
Green Lantern Corps #1,2,3,4,5 & 6 for $9.50
I bought these before I saw the other auction. Oh well, more trade bait. I really need to post a want list.

This week, I picked up Swamp Thing #1 (1972) in very solid VG or VG+ for $8. At the same shop I got a BEAUTIFUL copy of Superman #249 (Neal Adams art). I thought it was a 9.2, but when I got it home and gave it a good look, I found a tiny tear on one of the cover edges
. I only gave $7.50 for it, so I am still way in the good, but that was close to being a STEAL.

Still, nice issues with nice Ploog art.Heath wrote:I picked up Marvel Spotlight #s 8 & 9 (first and second appearances of the Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider) this weekend. $20 for the pair. Details posted in this thread.

Don't feel bad, when GR #1 came out in 1990, I kept looking for Marvel Spotlight #5-11.....and found them.
I kept wondering why they starred Captain Marvel, though....and I couldn't find Ghost Rider ANYWHERE in there....
Until I discovered, some time later, that I had bought volume TWO.

I much prefer the Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider because I grew up with him. I'm sure I've posted this elsewhere, but when I was a kid my folks were in the outlaw biker lifestyle. Every weekend at my house was a big party with lots of Harleys and beer and naked women and drugs. I got into comic books through Spider-Man (probably through reruns of the original 60s cartoon). But during that time, I identified most with Ghost Rider. There was no way Peter Parker or Steve Rogers or Bruce Wayne would ever hang out at my house. But Johnny Blaze would. He'd be right at home there. Ghost Rider and his world looked liked like the tattoos I saw every day. So I was quite drawn to the character. He fit in my world.
The 90's run wasn't bad. At least not until it just got so convoluted with the whole "Midnight Sons" thing. And Dan being Johnny's long lost brother was a bit of a stretch. And his bike wasn't a Harley. I loved Tex's art, but it just didn't hold that same magic for me.
But honestly, I think the current run is the best yet. Johnny Blaze is back, Tex is doing the art, and the writing is really good. It's one of my current favorite books.

I've read more of the Danny Ketch as Ghost Rider stuff than I have of the Johnny Blaze. I like the Johnny Blaze stuff better, but I haven't gotten many of those books and I didn't like them enough to seriously go after them.Escaflown4 wrote:Just curious, which Ghost Rider did you guys like better? Johhny Blaze in Volume 1 or Danny Ketch from Volume 2? I started collecting comics in the early 90's so you guys can already guess which one I preferred.
What really turned me off was Vengeance. Don't get me wrong, the character design was really cool, particularly to a 13 year old boy, which I was about that time, but it was a bigger part of a pattern. Spiderman had Venom, a villain with similar powers and a connected history between them. Wolverine had Sabretooth, a villain with similar powers and a connected (albeit mysterious) history between them. Both Sabretooth and Venom at the time were becoming anti-heroes, as Marvel is prone to do with popular villains. Vengeance seemed like they were plugging Ghost Rider into that formula, and it came out a little more forced than the organic growth of Venom and Sabretooth.

Well, I got them on eBay, so the $15 is a bit misleading b/c it doesn't include shipping which was close to $10. Still, right about a quarter each. I blame the purchase on the DU board below. They convinced me to read New Universe.Brother J wrote:Holy crap, that's a good deal!possumgrease wrote:I just picked up three complete runs of some New Universe titles (dp7, justice, psiforce) for a whopping $15.00
Nearly 100 books for $15, did you have to pay shipping or was this a local purchase?

You just don't expect to see something that modern from the 40s!Jay Tomio wrote:Sweet series that Adams did some damn awesome covers for late in the run.
Yeah, I love that cover - looking for more stuff that presents well with Blonde Phantom.
That could be the cover of any book from the past 10 years
You should re-slab it though CGC has omitted to put the de riguer "bondage cover" in the comments
