Seriously, I use original art to blow my nose on, but crumpling it up is JUST WRONG.ckb wrote:Reminds my of the VE wooden box set that turned up which looked like it was used as a doorstop. The auction mentioned that other Lapham stuff would be for sale on www.elcapitanbooks.com on Nov. 1.
Still nothing yet, though.

The inking is different than the published cover. I wonder if the published cover was inked on velum.VH69 wrote:It's the original pencils to the coverx-omatic wrote:The pencils and inking are different. It is either an unfinished cover or a reproduction of the cover. So what is it VH69? I have an interior page of partially inked pencils from Shadowman #1
that I'll post. I wonder what the deal was with that book.

I wish you luck. As much as I want it I could do without spending the cash and it would be nice for someone like you to have it.x-omatic wrote:In the past the has been a bidder named Ilucyfur jump in at the last minute on Pre Unity covers like this. I wouldn't doubt them to bid over 1000 if the see it listed.

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

Hey Chris, was that the Wooden Box you got from Bob Layton?ckb wrote:Reminds my of the VE wooden box set that turned up which looked like it was used as a doorstop. The Wizard Award for Best Editor of the Year that I got from him was broke in two, and glued back together.
He told me that someone at Valiant accidently knocked it off his desk, but it would take alot more than that to bust it up the way it is. He offered to buy it back, but I decided to keep it.
Justin has so many good contacts, he ought to do a book on the history of Valiant as told by insiders. The title could be "The Good, The Bad, & The Very Ugly", like the Shadowman issue. From the stories I've heard (so far), when it was good it was great, and when it was bad it got very ugly.---Steve

No, there was one that showed up on eBay that was really abused. Bob's was pristine. Sharp point at the top even.Vault-Keeper wrote:Hey Chris, was that the Wooden Box you got from Bob Layton?ckb wrote:Reminds my of the VE wooden box set that turned up which looked like it was used as a doorstop. Exactly. I was ready to throw down a "stupid money" bid on the cover, then thought better about it and just placed a realistic snipe (which lost by about $50 and never got placed). It could've been ugly if I had.magnusr wrote:Oh, I see. One of the inventors of the expression "stupid money".
