So, okay.riftt wrote:And again, this "one big book versus several small books" conversation really has nothing to do with the issue - what they did with this X-O Omnibus really is downright laughable. I mean, what if you opened up a regular hardcover and the pages were reprinted manga-sized with big black borders filling the space? That's essentially what happened here.
One simple question for you: Are you going to buy the book? Just answer me that.
Because if not, you're MAD, MAD, MAD about a product you have (and I'd venture to add, have never had) no intention of buying.
If you are, you're just a sheep who complains but slavishly buys the stuff anyway.
Which is it?
Inquiring minds want to know. I want to know.
I wonder what it would be like to be a lonely, muck-encrusted monster? Probably be an improvement.

To be fair I thought the second half of harby wars was nonsensical when I read it monthly.rkjock1 wrote:riftt wrote:except Valiant completely screwed up the mapping for Harbinger and Harbinger Wars, as the Harbinger Deluxe hardcover is basically nonsensical for the entire second half as you're missing half the story.Savant wrote:[

Re: HW deluxe, I don't think it was screwed up, since the 3 series had concurrent and overlapping stories. However, when recently re-reading it via the deluxe edition, I think the sequencing of the final 3 issues (part 4 of each series) may have been better if HW 4 came after Bloodshot 13.

Re: X-O Manowar Omnibus
For me, this isn't that big of a deal, although it certainly is different. I had not planned on purchasing this due to having some of the material and I am not for double/triple dipping. Plus, i am not a fan of buying gigantic books. I have quite a few Marvel omniboo. Personally, I like the OHC more and so far, have really liked the few that Valiant has put out.
I do think that books like this appeal to people who want a lot of story in a larger format and I understand why they would feel slighted.

Re: X-O Manowar Omnibus
How much bonus material was included in this collection?
I thought they were including some scan of original art, and other stuff.

Re: X-O Manowar Omnibus
One of the reasons I buy the omnibus format is that many of the comics being collected in an omnibus volume are old and the original issues have become yellow or brittle. For example, Marvel and DC comics from the early 90s are often on the crappy paper of the day and the omnibus reprint not only collects them and gives us vibrant coloring, but solves the old, brittle, faded-paper problem. For Valiant, because the original copies were printed on better paper that has held up and not decayed and yellowed like the Marvel/DC counterparts, this makes it a bit harder sell for me given the black border issue. So, as much as I was looking forward to this X-O omnibus, I'm a bit saddened by the large black border because I can read the originals in the same size and since they didn't suffer the paper decay of many contemporary comics this omnibus isn't really needed to solve that specific problem. I will likely still buy one (ok, probably definitely will) but might wait and pick up a used one for a lower price.
Also, the pics seem to show that the X-O pages (excluding the black border) are smaller than the Shadowman Masters edition, which is very close to the size of a normal current comic. So does that mean that the X-O art is actually a bit SMALLER than the original comic art? Hopefully someone can clarify!! Thanks!!

Woof. i just got my xo omni yesterday. not sure if i want to unwrap it. besides what going on on the inside i really wish valiant would crack the wallet open for a new graphic designer. the dust jacket and more specifically the spine is poorly designed.

Re: X-O Manowar Omnibus
I haven't picked this up yet but have it ordered.
I don't mind the large borders as I hate it when art is hard to see at the binding. The extra space will solve this.
When I read the "oversized" I didn't think of over sized art, I thought of number of issues and pages.

Got mine from DCBS today. Was prepared for worst based on some of the things I read here and elsewhere. I LOVE my copy. The paper is great matte paper. The borders aren't as big as I feared. No gutter loss in middle. I'm really happy.

Re: X-O Manowar Omnibus
I'm looking forward to getting mine in the mail sometime next week. I'm curious to see which original art scans they included.
I'm with x-omatic in that I figured over-sized meant the amount of pages. I hope these collections are successful for Valiant and that we see more.

Re: X-O Manowar Omnibus
I got mine in the mail last night and was prepared for digest sized interiors.
While I would've preferred it be true to standard expectation of an omnibus and delivered full page Oversized art I wasn't entirely upset either. I also understand they are working somewhat from behind an 8 ball anyway on getting these collections together(Eternal Warrior Masters anyone?)
For me the things that make this book are:

For me the things that make this book are:
- A nice easy way to re-read at will the first 31 issues of this original title
The book includes Solar and Turok so I get *MY* Gold Key Valiant iterations as well
The bonus material in the back

Re: X-O Manowar Omnibus
Could someone with the book elaborate on how VEI handled the transition between X-O 12 and 13 without Solar 17? This is one of my big concerns with the omnibus

That was very helpful! Exactly what I was looking to find out!
Re: X-O Manowar Omnibus
I decided to keep my omnibus. as much as I'm not a fan of the design of the book... meh i'll get over it
the book is the exact size of a deluxe edition so that's nice.

Re: X-O Manowar Omnibus
Cool that they popped for foil embossing on cover and spine! However, after accepting the smaller artwork and black borders and coming around to wanting to buy this book, now the ultra-tight binding and fact that the book won't stay open has put me off it again. From the video it looks like you'd not only have hold it open with two hands, but actually use a little bit of force to pull it open wide enough to read properly.

Re: X-O Manowar Omnibus
I got my copy last week and I love it! Nice looking book. I especially like the foil embossed logo on the spine & cover also.
Its a real treat re-reading all these stories that were my favorites of the early 90s. The bonus features are what I always drool over.
I was pleased they were able to use several of the art scans I sent in. I got my name in the credits again too
The best part was the material that even I haven't seen before. The Byran Hitch unpublished cover is amazing.
Nice to know they can surprise me, even now, with unpublished art and material.
It looks real nice on the shelf with the other Valiant hardcovers. If you are on the fence about picking this up I'd recommend adding it to your collection.
Hopefully we will see a Volume 2 and/or more big Valiant collected hardcovers down the road!
