It's a comic. They have limited panels and words in which to convey to the average US reader the gist of an accent and character background. The writer will therefore be forced to fall back on stereotypes and verbal and cultural tropes to get the point across. I'm not bothered by it.

I'm Canadian and I say "Bloody Hell" all the time usually followed by a stream of F-Bombs!

Such was the case today- My windshield wipers on my 98 Saturn conked out, I went to my mechanic and they can no longer get the part because Saturns are discontinued even though they are awesome cars (thanks unions)

I had to resort to the pick n pull and it was facking freezing today not only that the young mechanic gave me bad advice, he was like "it's just 3 bolts"..B#llsh!t! I figured I could get the thing out in an hour but no such luck it was total *SQUEE* and I had to abandoned ship because the yard was closing and I was freezing to death!

I will go back tomorrow but this time I'll be armed with a youtube video and better tools :hope:

I really liked this issue, great art by Cafu, I like the setup, having Livewire now rolling with Ninjak and MI-6, Ninjak should always be the point man, he works well within the team setting, unlike Harada, who, surprisingly, I didn't miss at all...

Damn boy, Aric don't play, off wit his head, lol... It's not the first time, nor will it be the last, but it almost makes XO, seem out of his element because, he literally, can't be touched, at least not by mere, foot soliders...

I do however, hope that, Livewire needing to be saved, (she's being protected from Harada etc etc) doesn't become a recurring theme, she's pretty badass in her own right, and should be able to handle her business, but at times it seems her powers work against her, sorta like in this issue, and the last arc...

I also loved Dr Silks little origin, looking forward to learning more about his past, (especially the parts that pertain to that female Shadow-woman) and I'd like to know if, Dell is still around...

And, who's the mystery guy running the show back then?

Thanks! This was my favorite issue of Unity so far. I love the concept of an early Unity team (that promptly self destructs).
As soon as I read this book I got a hold of CAFU's art rep to purchase these pages.

While I have enjoyed Pak's handling of Gilad, I also love how Kindt is writing him as well. His dialogue really conveys the sense of his immortality and how Gilad's long-term view of the Earth and events can help this team.

But how did it help the WW II Unity team? While recounting the event, I found the lack of mention of Gilad's actions during the team's demise somewhat disturbing. For example, if Shadow-woman went psycho crazy, did Gilad try to reign her in? Maybe we'll learn more about these events later, but I'll be surprised if Gilad took all of that in stride.

Kindt's handling of Aric was also very good. From his curt mannerisms to his reasonings for helping Livewire to his understated ability to wipe the floor with every bad guy they encountered yet he didn't was very well done. (Gilad having to tell Aric to stand down as they surrendered was a great little touch).

I agree, Livewire needs a new costume. There's no doubt over the role that Harada and his teachings had in maturing her but if she wants to break ties with him now, then she should seek a new identity and look for herself. The Harbinger patch she wears only symbolizes Harada and his methods which she doesn't accept anymore.

Overall, probably the best issue of this title I've read so far.

Hmm, underwhelming issue for me. I think the introduction of the WWII to illustrate a lesson for Aric then coincidentally linking to the villain just seemed clunky. If the sequence was reversed, and the WWII Unity team mentioned in context of Silk after the fact, it would have been smoother IMHO. That clunkiness marred my enjoyment, as did the last few pages which could have greater clarity, but they may be better on re-reading.

On the Ninkak speech aspect, as a Brit it did not bother me. I went to a state school, not a posh school, but it was okay. it was the interchanged use of England and Britain that bloody annoyed me however! Note to United States authors: England, United Kingdom and Great Britain are actually distinct things, even if subtly so.

Finally, using the name of a real-world rugby player (Bryan Habana) as a fictional character who was noted as playing rugby was a mis-step also in my view. If an intentional story point, it seems a slight on Mr. Habana, and if done just to quickly grab a name when struggling for one, then try harder in my view.

Yeah, I agree on the use of 'England' when they mean 'British', unintentionally I know but (when referencing the War) it could be slightly disrespectful to the Welsh, Scots and Northern Irish. BUT! The real shocker is Ninjak's purple left hand drive car and his castle!! Seriously? :kidaround:

On the Mr Habana character, wasn't he referenced by another name? I took this as an editorial error?

:offtopic: Speaking of accents, it used to drive me nuts in the original VH1 when the writers would have Flamingo say "Y'all" because she was from the south, but she'd say it to just one person, like Pete. "Y'all" is a contraction of "You all," and is PLURAL! We in the south use it as a second-person plural, like "you guys." It is never said to one single person. The writers in VH1 never understood this, and it was painful yet amusing to look at Flamingo's "southern" dialect.
For my Valiant: Kindle Worlds stories, check out my amazon author central page, http://www.amazon.com/Richmond-West/e/B ... 204&sr=8-1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Sort by price low to high, and the Valiant Kindle Worlds stories will pop to the top. :)

Not a dialect, but there are instances in the early issues of Solar of different characters using the term "psycho-chicken" which I have never heard uttered by a single person in my 40 years.
