I think it's rather amazing that Dysart pulls that off. It adds a little bit of 'goofy' in a way that doesn't spoil the book for me.Dallow Spicer1 wrote:Firstly, Animalia, I can't get used to those cartoon character she projects, it takes me out of the story.
What if it's the case that Harada can't affect projections that don't have an inner host? Like there's nothing real or tangible for him to harm and they are impervious to his psionic manipulations? Whatever he throws at them, they can shrug off and walk through like ghosts?

But can someone explain to me how what's going on with Harada fits into the Unity continuity? He's a drooling mess in this issue, but in Unity he's waging war with Aric? How does this jive? In issue #18 they already acknowledged he was currently juggling this war with Aric in Romania. Seems like there's a disconnect in the continuity now.
I still wish they would clarify, with some editorial notes.

Good art in this issue but I'm SO glad Torqualla is over.
Monica Jim and Harada are my favorite characters in the book

Ingrid could definitely use some back story, hope she pulls through. It really seemed like Stronghold died (ya think they could have NOT showed him in the next ish preview?). ...Doesnt HGC have medical droids?

For me the cartoon characters are the wrong side of goofy, but it's still a great book.jmatt wrote:I think it's rather amazing that Dysart pulls that off. Well, she is a kid and these characters spring from her imagination, so I'll buy em for now.Dallow Spicer1 wrote:For me the cartoon characters are the wrong side of goofy, but it's still a great book.jmatt wrote:I think it's rather amazing that Dysart pulls that off. My hope is that she becomes one of the renegades and as she is exposed to "real world" animals and state of the art CG, her imagination and her projections will become MUCH more menacing and less cartoony. Say for instance if the renegades went to see the hobbit, couldn't she be inspired and then go around projecting Dragons? Or if they watched Jurassic Park maybe she'd project a T-Rex? The projections should get more and more scary as she is exposed to more scary ideas. All she's known up to now is cartoons.

If Ingrid bites the dust, I would send Dysart an angry e-mail.

That would be a natural progression for her. I like it.Carson wrote:My hope is that she becomes one of the renegades and as she is exposed to "real world" animals and state of the art CG, her imagination and her projections will become MUCH more menacing and less cartoony.

I feel the opposite about them - I think it's an awesome concept that she projects cartoon images. The reason why is so compelling, and I love the idea that any imagery is possible to project onto the hard shell - it's just a block of concentrated psychic force, after all. I like to imagine just how bizarre it would look to see a carton projection appear in the context of actual reality, along the lines of Roger Rabbit, but without the silly factor.Dallow Spicer1 wrote:For me the cartoon characters are the wrong side of goofy, but it's still a great book.jmatt wrote:I think it's rather amazing that Dysart pulls that off. It also has shades of the Incredible Hulk for me, around the time he was banished from earth to The Crossroads & eventually had three symbolic psychic projections of objects from Bruce Banners childhood acting as guides.
