Thank you all guys for your reviews!
I see that I reached the target that I had in mind about the mood of the sequence, it's a personal achievment for me.
I really hope to work again on the stories of the first Shadowman, maybe when Jordan will come back :hope: .

Finally got my copy of issue 10, even though I haven't picked up the last couple of issues the quality of issue 0 and the potential for issue 10 tempted me back. This was a great issue, and I think issue 0 and 10 shows JJ's true potential. For whatever reason the interim issues didn't hit those heights but I recently picked up his work on Luther Strode and that was great too.

I'd like to see him back with Valiant one day as his potential is exceptional (see issue zero and 10 for proof).

4.5/5 (too many artist changes to get the full 5 but they were all decent). :thumb:

Who drew the page where a blood spattered Darque is in the first upper left panel and it has the caption, "My brother was here." and the same page, next panel to the right starts with "Halt!' and "Where in the hell did you come from?"... and for that matter, the two previous pages as well ?

Ehh, lots of backstory that was already there. And overall with the run on this title so far, I've been quite disappointed. I thought bringing the fight with Darque was too fast and too rushed. I wanted Darque to linger around as an ominous presence for another ten or 20 issues before having a confrontation with Jack. And killing off ( for now?) Dox was a bit premature, I didn't even think his character was even developed into an essential part of Jack's new life yet. Would have iked to've seen more mentoring and character development. Don't really see Alyssa carrying the load, see the need for another a bettor to be introduced

No, my first sentence was critique of #10. Then prefaced the rest with, the arc so far.

That scene with the guy in the infirmary was one of the worst Valiant illustrations to date. The perspective and rendering were off. The couple pages before/after we're not great either. I'm trying to be polite.

What were you thinking?

On that page. The panel where the two soldiers are holding guns. Look at the way they are holding their guns. Especially the guy towards the top.

Agreed. I loved her in the original Valiant universe and I loved her in this issue and issue 0.

I would love to have her as a supporting character for this book.

Same as you, coupled with what I already mentioned and what tchalla noted, "On that page. The panel where the two soldiers are holding guns. Look at the way they are holding their guns. Especially the guy towards the top."

What do you think? Maybe I am just expecting to much from Valiant but Dammit $#! T like this *SQUEE* me off to no extent. How can an artist get away with being this sloppy? Even more so, what decent editor would let this slide? I remember a time when Jim Shooter would have had that crap redrawn. It is things like this that has me down on the very comics I love almost every week. Now DC and Marvel are guilty of it as well but for an up and comer like Valiant, why would they risk substandard work? I don't follow "artists" so much but I have never heard of some of these guys (and maybe there is a reason for that) but damn... you have this other totally new Italian girl, Andrea, who comes here for the first time and does a good job... what is the other guys problem? Whomever reviews the art in the final product might want to consider getting another set of eyes on target. I was given a sneak preview of the most recent Bloodshot & HARD Corps a week or two out and really the art took a step UP from the previous issues, it's been so bad for me that my favorite character is at the bottom of my Valiant list guys ! ! At the bare minimum, I believe the art should be up to at least that standard. The colorist (uh Moose is it? ) has been to blame for screwing up some rather good art on a few Valiant titles as well. It's a shame to see some very nice pencils/ink pages (as seen in the Comixology digital extras) ruined by very bad coloring. And don't think "ahh Knightt is just being negative again", I just call it like I see it and because I am a guy who buys Valiant Comics from his LCS, DCBS "and" Comixology, I don't think it can be said that I don't love Valiant Comics. I sink a lot of money into Valiant Comics, I don't think it's too much to ask for good art. I can't see all these "best issue ever" reviews... people really gloss over these terrible pages and consistently issue praise and are getting what I feel is bad art. I hate to be such a Debby Downer here and I feel that the majority of what is being produced by Valiant right now is good, giving me that warm and fuzzy feeling but when I see the art like I do in Showman #10, it bothers me a great deal. If I can't come here to vent that, where can I go? I don't think I'm totally alone in my thinking either. I would like an explanation as to why pages are printed when they look so bad and if any of the leadership were to stand behind those pages, not calling them out as bad, I seriously would not believe them. Why can't Valiant shape up the art? They sure can make some nice looking variant covers, maybe that is what they are good at... but I want Valiant around for more than just a few years.

I completly agree with all of the above. After the excellent #0 I was hoping for a Master Darque series - the character is so deep and complex that he could hold his own title.

As for Sandria I sure hope we see her again. Loved the character.

That said, I'm looking forward to Shadowman #13X and #13 to see this new direction. Previews of #13X seem to reference the first arc from memory so hopefully Shadowman wont have a reboot...

I think a reboot at this point would be a white flag from VALIANT. A slight costume change, a more focused tone and deeper development of character and city are enough to rejuvenate the book without seeming to admit the series has been a failure thus far. VEI can't afford failure, even 1+ years in.

Knightt wrote:So, what specifically do you (anyone) think would "save" the character/book?
IMO, there is nothing wrong with the book and character conceptually

The origin story of the Shadowman was brilliant and imaginative

The magical corner of the universe I think has been nicely established

Master Darque, the main nemesis, is a great character

Sandria is awesome

the abbeters have some potential as the helpers of Shadowman

The brethren are just as interesting as any of the other villain sects scattered throughout the universe

And Jack has a lot of potential as a character

What we need are things that are very fixable ...
- better development and understanding of Jack (more personality, more background story)
- a darker, more horror filled tone
- more relationship building - between characters and the city
- Arc's that are more grounded (less tower of souls, end of the world type arcs for a little while at least)
Ha! Yeah! Nice! Any of those dudes in your head mosh?! - Flamingo
