Steve, thanks for the reply. I'd be happy to share some stories about those days, Defiant especially was an interesting place to be around, considering all the drama back then. I'm thinking about putting a web site together with some of this stuff so that it can stay out there for all the folks that like these issues. Perhaps I'll post some here first so that people can checks them out. I just wish that I hadn't lost a lot of the behind the scenes xeroxs that I had at one time....
And, also, thanks for the link to the Defiant boards, I've never seen that one. Hopefully, none of the mods will have a problem with that link.... Got to work a lot of very talented and/or cool people there: JG Jones, Alan Weiss, Grey, Dave Cockrun, Adam Pollina and a whole bunch of others.
I am just guessing, but perhaps Jim looks at these boards and would say, "I've already done enough interviews about what happenned, I don't need to go back there, time to move forward." and that is probably a decent reason for him to avoid some of these spots. Could be wrong, don't quote me!

Good point, I need to look for magazine back issues and try to piece more of it together on my own rather than hoping to be spoon-fed!charles_yo wrote:I am just guessing, but perhaps Jim looks at these boards and would say, "I've already done enough interviews about what happenned, I don't need to go back there, time to move forward." and that is probably a decent reason for him to avoid some of these spots. MAN! I knew somebody was gonna drag poor ol' Paulsmith56 into this!!!ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:For the record....I didn't start this thread (but I'm very pleased it's taken a life of it's own) for Slim Jim to come along and 'clear the air' about the past...
The ONLY reason I want him to come is because I LIKE what the guy did, and I want to hear him talk about the weather, the state of the industry, why he likes ice cream, and...most importantly....why Paulsmith56 is his hero.
Can't we all just get along...

It's Solar... Don't call him Dr. Phil!

i can understand why jim might be hesitant to introduce himself on the boards. i can see where for him, valiant turned into one big headache and heartache.
for me, it's enough that he knows that we respect and appreciate his work.
the mongolian cluster f--- that valiant became is probably enough to sour anyones memories of that time. so if he doesn't feel like having to go thru all that again i totally understand. i'd probably want to put it behind me as well.
there are a ton of those guys i'd love to hear from...tom ryder, mike leeke, dave lapham, ken branch, maurice fontenot, tony bedard...the list goes on and on. all of these guys are real talents and it's a shame that they are more well known then they are.
tom ryder is one of the most underrated inkers working today...his stuff is just gorgeous. his inks don't overpower the pencils...when klaus jansen inks someone, you can tell he did. tom's stuff accentuates the penciller and actually takes on the characteristics of who he's inking...he's just that good.
anyway, jim...if you decide to join us then i for one would welcome you to our community. but if not then i completely understand as well...thanks for making something that resonates with people after all this time.

I last ran into Jim with my fiancee, now wife, at a restaurant in NYC. Probably about 5 years ago now. We chit chatted etc, and taht was it.jedimarley wrote:Charles, When was the last time you spoke to Jim Shooter?
You see, I have no hard feelings over Defiant, or Valiant, but I have reasons to be unhappy about certain things that happenned at Broadway, so its not a business relationship that I desire having any more.
And that being said, I learned a huge amount from Jim during the years that we were associated, and he did give me my first chance in the biz, with a push from David Lapham, and no one else would take a chance on an unknown California artist, so i have every reason to be thankful for that.

I think we will see another Valiant Alum visiting us very soon. I talked with him today and he was very surprised that Valiant still had so much following. So look for another Alum to hit the boards very soon!
