Yeah, and I almost mentioned that in my post since Chiclo was one of the posters trying to convince me to give them a whirl. The wife and I saw a local ad recently for fish tacos and she made a face (even though she loves seafood); I said "hey, ya know some of my friends were telling me that they're pretty good...".

Someday.

I will say it again.

Light fish. Blackening spice(cumin, pepper, salt, garlic). Lightly sprinkle on something like tilapia. Grill.

Put in a shell with a guacamole. I make mine with cut up mango, avocado, lime juice, pepper, salt. You could replace with peaches, too.

Top with red cabbage, perhaps?

Healthy, fresh, delicious.

Top with Tapatio sauce - not Tabasco.

Yum. Tapatio. I was turned onto Tapatio by my Mexican friends when I lived in CA.

Tabasco's got it's place, but yes, tapatio for fish tacos.

Also, I'm glad this thread has made a turn for discussing something useful, instead of base speculation.

Now I need to put tapatio on my shopping list.

The best Tabasco out there is the chipotle Tabasco. I could put that on a bunch. Even if - or especially if - Tabasco isn't your favorite. I tend to move through a variety of hot sauces in my Mexican foods.

Asian food, however, I stay rather monogamous to Sriracha rooster sauce.

And maybe I need to start another thread - or two - to discuss hot sauces.

You kids know who that 'well-dressed' gent is, right?

He's the world record holder (at one time) for Donkey Kong. And something else...

A great documentary about it...

The King of Kong... Fistful of Quarters. Where he looks like a total tool.

I guess he always LOOKS like a total tool. But in the film he ACTS like a total tool.

That haircut - 1988-licious!

Sadly, I own that exact tie.

One of my all time favorite docs. He lost and reclaimed the Donkey Kong record since the film but the only record he currently has I think is Pac-Man. and yeah he's a colossal toolbag.

This thread has gone off on a weird tangent, but I like it. I WAS going to mention that he looked like a complete tool, but uncharacteristically didn't want to offend anyone. Guess I needn't have worried.

Thanks for the history lesson, I had no idea who he was other than "captain hair". Nice to know his attitude matches his appearance. :D

And now I want hot wings.

For some reason that pic makes me want to go to one of those barbecue places where they have a bunch of different sauces in the middle of the table and you can pick and choose which you want to try.

Off topic? no...the secret is that Billy Mitchell is going to be the Mothergod-like character and start Unity.

Super seriously if you haven't seen King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters it is so freaking great.

I'm a big hot sauce guy too. This Christmas I received a bottle of something called 1498 Cauterizer. Jezoo. I put a little on my tongue and saw stars.

And since we're talking Mexican food, I cooked recently with a new ingredient (for me) tomatillos. I'm sure this isn't new for our Texas contingent but it was a nice change of pace.

HP is "Houses of Parliment" sauce, the Queen makes it.

Canada is required to use it, especially on Victoria Day.

It's in the BNA act

Ack......Didn't see your post about Doner until after making my own post.

Doner supposedly pre-dates Shawarmas & Gyros, so those two are variations of Doners. The Mexican variation is Tacos Al Pastor.

As for Shawarmas, they're not necessarily Lebanese/Syrian. They're made in most Arab-speaking countries in the Middle East. You can also get it in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Libya, etc...It has also spread into non-Arab countries, but it's originally an Arab sandwich.

Those are all the meats that are cooked on a vertical spit. When it comes to actual kabob (Meat cooked in skewers on an open flame), the best is Iranian kabob. Iranians/Persians were the originators of kabob, and none of the other countries seem able to make them better.
