I agree, choice is better. I'm a little bi-polar about the matter. When I go to pick up my books, I'm a little ticked at the notion that if I purchased all the variants piling up in my pull-box, I'd spend like $60 on two stories that are already too expensive at the $3.99 cover price. Then a few days later I find myself excited at everything coming our way and feel the urge to "collect"...

Went to the store today to pick my January books.
Besides my regular copies, I also brought:

-Bloodshot #02 2nd print,
-Archer & Armstrong #06 (Zircher),
-X-O Manowar #09 (both Nord and Crain's variants)
-X-O #06 2nd print

facepalm I'm hooked, darn it.

You are. A variant is one thing. A second print of a #6 issue is indicative of a problem. But believe me, I know the feeling. "It's only another four bucks and I'm so excited about the prospects of the universe... I really should have this."

You're absolutely right. I hope that somewhere in the near future I'll only be getting regular copies of the books, plus the occasional variant I like. But more importantly, I hope I'm ok with it.
It's a waste of energy to be bummed about not getting "that" cover x or y, it really is. It's a book. We SHOULD be content with reading the stories, but collecting sometimes can hide that simple truth.

(and I didn't even mentioned the extra copy of Shadowman #2 that I bought, because the one I got earlier this week had a small crease on it's back cover  )

I think I am, too. I was fine with just picking up one cover, whatever was in my pullbox. In the last month or so, I've been actively looking for variants on eBay and this site since my shop doesn't really get them. Like others, I know there's no way I'll get them all but I really like the ones I have. I think it was that darn Shadowman #1 Johnson variant that got me started.
Black Science. Lazarus. Birthright. Saga. Manifest Destiny. Deadly Class.
