Re: A&A 1:100
I think it's awesome that Valiant gave these away to everyone on Twitter. I ALMOST "lied"
and photoshopped myself holding my Valiant comics into the Paradise store. I just can't get to my LCS on Wednesdays
I have to take care of my little boy on those days. The good news is, I think there will be a lot more of these on EBAY soon and the prices should plummet so I can buy one
To join the debate I have had my Twitter account for years and almost never logged in ... until Valiant "made me". I don't love it, but I do find it gives me a lot of info and interaction that I wouldn't get anywhere else. I follow a few people on the board, I follow Valiant, Dinesh and Simon and several of the Valiant artists and writers. I also use it to follow my Chicago Cubs and several beat writers which actually has been "awesome" for insider info I don't get anywhere else AND I get breaking news and rumors fast. I suggest you all join Twitter.

How do you reach new fans on twitter exactly? Don't you have to subscribe to the twitter feed? Wouldn't that make you a fan already?MarkRoseHFX wrote:So do you think VEI should run promotions like that to reach new fans on a Valiant Fans messageboard or on FB and twitterdavid_albuq wrote:So you have to be on Twitter to win?Hey VEI, there are some fans who don't tweet and don't FB.

no offense man but that wasn't the brightest comment i've ever seen.
I'm honestly curious as I've never used twitter.

It's a couple things.rjrjr wrote:How do you reach new fans on twitter exactly? Don't you have to subscribe to the twitter feed? Wouldn't that make you a fan already?
I'm honestly curious as I've never used twitter.
I use twitter a lot, and I use it pretty heavily to increase exposure of Only The Valiant.
When someone retweets something I tweet, it goes in their list of tweets, so people that follow them, but don't follow me, will see it. When Valiant retweets one of my OTV tweets, for instance, all of their thousands of followers will see that tweet, in addition to our hundreds of followers.
Also, I will add people to my twitter feed. Most people have twitter set up so they get an email when someone decides to follow them. When I follow them, there is a chance they will check out my twitter account and decide to follow me back. I always look when someone follows me, and unless it is clearly a spam account or an institutional account for something I'm not interested in, I follow back.
I like to say that "Twitter is the Internet's Cocktail Party", and it really does work kind of like that. Conversations ebb, flow, shift, and people come in and out of them, and as a result you meet, and follow, new people.

I just wanted to chime in on a couple of things (a little nicerdavid_albuq wrote:Here's the thing. VEI does in fact have other means to encourage promotion of their brand through various means. But c'mon. We are talking the rarest of rare of the new Valiants...probably the most-sought after due to scarcity....maybe even the most-valuable.
Only available to those who Tweet. That is in fact the bottom line. We're not talking about some run-of-the mill variant or a gold, we're talking the gold standard of variants.
And garnering such a gem should not be inclusive to those who only Tweet.
Truth be told. I've been encouraging Valiant since 1993. I even have an original Valiant symbol tattoo. So yea, I'm a fan.

Second, I understand some people don't like Twitter, but with all the re-tweet contests, fan art Fridays, and now walk in Wednesdays, I don't see why you wouldn't sign up for Twitter if only to enter the contests? I'm not a huge fan of Twitter, but many places (including Valiant) share more news on Twitter than any other place.

Re: A&A 1:100
Agreed. It bears repeating, since people keep seeming to forget...
There are AS MANY of each Valiant comic as VEI decides to print.
The ratios that retailers need to order are what retailers must do.
VEI can print as many as they want and give them away any way they want.
I would be VERY surprised if there are less than 1,000 of any Valiant books... ever.

Re: A&A 1:100
That and his whole post is a great description of twitter. You can use it to build relationships with people of that share your interests. for example I focus mainly on blood donation awareness, UFC/MMA, and comic books. It takes a while to get used to it but once you get the hang of it and really start to get how it works it can actually be fun. I've built some great relationships and i've used it as a tool to spread messages. for example I've gotten some UFC fighters like Shane Carwin and comic book creators like Neil Gaiman to help spread the word about blood donation. Neil's tweet alone was sent out to his approx 3 million followers and many of them retweeted it. Even if only a very small fraction actually bothered with the tweet that's still a pretty damn good number. There is no better way for free to spread the word about something.Dr. Solar wrote: I like to say that "Twitter is the Internet's Cocktail Party", and it really does work kind of like that. I discovered the new Valiant was coming on Twitter. I LOVED reading my Valiant books back in the 90's and when I saw it that day on twitter I felt like a kid again. And i'm loving every issue that comes out because it's even better than it was back then imo. And if you think i'm the only one hearing about it this way you're sadly mistaken.
You can also build some great relationships on there and i've discovered a lot of webcomics and small press stuff that I really enjoy via twitter. And I haven't just won prizes from Valiant either i've won a bunch of free t-shirts and stuff like that.
Edit- just another small point i forgot to make...this contest my LCS owner also won the A&A variant so do think that helps or hurts my chances of getting a lot of those harder to get 2nd prints etc?

MarkRoseHFX wrote:ok *SQUEE* now the gloves are off. If there are better ways to reach new fans than on facebook and twitter you still haven't named them. You're thinking about this from the WRONG perspective. Promotions like this are double valuable to Valiant. Not only does it reward fans that support them on twitter/fb or whatever but those peoples followers see this as well. To give you even just a twitter example myself I have 967 followers. some of which are junk yes i try to clean them out. so even if you remove say 150 or so junk followers everything i tweet is seen by around 800 people. of which most of them are NOT from the Valiant world. my facebook i have over 1700 friends. there is a lot of junk in there too but a *SQUEE* of them come from former workplaces that I had a LOT of co-workers I've worked for very large companies. Nobody questions your Valiant fandom esp if you have that tattoo for real i think that's badass. But if you think just talking about Valiant on a Valiant fan message board is helping drive new business you ARE an idiot. And if you underestimate the reach of facebook and twitter you're an even bigger idiot. and last time I checked this issue isn't only available on twitter you can feel free to purchase it anywhere. but if you want a free copy i'd suggest you do work son. And if you think i'm some sort of *SQUEE* newb just because i haven't been on this board forever you are sadly mistaken. My first Valiant book when I was in High School and working part time at an LCS was VH1 X-O #1. I'm sure you're probably a pretty good guy but take your head out of your *SQUEE*.david_albuq wrote:Here's the thing. Don't forget to DM Valiant your LCS's info they get one too. Your LCS getting an A&A 1:100 out of this contest is going to help you AND Valiant both. Who knows you might find future variants for cover price bc of something like that. Plus don't forget if the LCS gets something like that they'll be happy with Valiant and want to SELL Valiant. And the more Valiant sells the more your variants are worth. Food for thought eh

Also, how will we know exactly what the print run of a book will be if this happens.
