Palmiotti? Jimmy's no bridge burner. Did he really say that or did you mean Bill Jemas?BloodOfHeroes wrote:I'm sure Joey Q got some well-deserved incentive.
But it did make me realize...when Time-Warner acquired DC, Quesada and Palmiotti were quick to dismiss "AOL Comics." I wonder if those words/sentiments will come back to haunt Q-bert.

Actually, unless Boom decides to do something about it, I would fully expect the contract to run at least it's full course.StarBrand wrote:Boom Studios has some sort of agreement to publish Disney comic books. I'm sure that will be out the window one way or another now.
Could Marvel come out with a Donald Duck #1?

As I read this thread I know I’m in the minority, but I think the merger will be a boom for comics. I’ve had numerous conversations with the owner of my LCS and can tell you that kids just aren’t into comics that much anymore.
If something doesn’t change our hobby will at best be reduced to annual graphic novels sold at large book retailers. I don’t want that and I don’t think most of you do either.
I know many (if not most) of you like the more mature nature the American genre has embraced and can I understand your concerns. However if the medium is going to survive it has to offer something to everybody.
I’m not saying that all comics should be family friendly but having an all ages approach with the characters can’t be bad. The reason I read comics today is because MEGOs WGSH figures, The Super Friends, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, Christopher Reeve, Bill Bixby, and Adam West introduced me to Super Heroes before I entered middle school (yes, I'm in my early 30s).
If the merger will allow Marvel to stay relevant we need to just suck it up—there will still be something left for the adults. In my opinion WB did not screw up DC and I just don’t see Disney screwing up Marvel—not when they just spent 4 billion.

Yeah man I've seen that clip of Downfall with so many different subtitles. I think the Xbox Live one is brilliant though.Daniel Jackson wrote:Man, they sure have got a lot mileage out of that bit.Crow331 wrote:Hitler is *SQUEE* that Disney bought Marvel .... the funniest *SQUEE* ever!

For a little while in the mid-90's Marvel did publish some titles based on the popular Disney cartoons at the time.Chiclo wrote:I remember at least a Darkwing Duck title by Marvel.StarBrand wrote:Boom Studios has some sort of agreement to publish Disney comic books. Could Marvel come out with a Donald Duck #1?
Still though, Boom Studios still has the license for several Disney titles so I think they're waiting to sort that out first.

I agree. This COULD be the best thing to happen to comics in a long while. Hopefully they'll get some Marvel character books for kids into the Disney stores.sanman wrote:As I read this thread I know I’m in the minority, but I think the merger will be a boom for comics. Something I realized lately is that comics are less expensive than usual kids' books. I bought a little floppy Dora book for my daughter. It was half the length of a comic and about the same width with only about 20 pages and it cost $5.99. Comics could be a good value compared to other stuff that's out ther.

I think the big events hurt comics severly in regards to sales how many casual readers want to go get 100 comics to get the entire civil war story or 100 to final crisis (my god its still going) and so on between dc and marvel there are very few comics that have self contained stories now a days and i think it hurts the mediam as a whole
I’m okay with the big annual events to a degree (many of you may know I'm totally into Blackest Night). What drives me up a tree is that monthlies are now written to be collected—that’s the real problem.superman-prime wrote:I think the big events hurt comics severly in regards to sales how many casual readers want to go get 100 comics to get the entire civil war story or 100 to final crisis (my god its still going) and so on between dc and marvel there are very few comics that have self contained stories now a days and i think it hurts the mediam as a whole
