- Rick Leonardi (perhaps one of the industry's most underrated artists. One of the best "form" AND "function" artists.)
- Chris Sprouse (Very gifted storyteller with a clean, versatile & distinct style. Higher profile to boot.)
- Jerry Ordway (I don't see him on too many projects these days & that's a crying shame -- he's too good not to snatch up fast.)
I think Ordway would be great on Magnus, especially if he inked his own pencils.

For some reason I see him really doing a bang up job illustrating a new Rai title -- but he'd excel on a number of them -- no doubt about it.

If Valiant could ever publish Magnus again, I'd really like to see that crisp Manning influence on the title, whether it was Bob Layton, Chris Sprouse, or whoever...Steve Rude would be an ideal match, but he'd be busy with Nexus...howsabout: Mark Schultz!

(Probably could only be mini-series' though, like Dave Stevens and so many other greats, he takes his time...to good effect, but not very conducive to illustrating a monthly title most likely. Still...)

Micheal Lark. On any book.

No one does as convincing, grounded superheroes. Few artists can 'act' as well either.

I'd rather see David Aja on a new Rai book. If you've seen his work on the current Iron Fist series (if you haven't, you should--it's a darn good book!), he'd be the perfect Rai artist.
But I wouldn't hate Ordway on Rai. :)

What is Bernard Chang doing these days?

Anyhoo, many of those mentioned on the previous wishlists are either on exclusives or are really slow. But putting those factors aside, my hypothetical wishlist core nine books with associated artists (money and deadlines no object, of course) would be:

Shadowman - Bob Hall ideally of course, but if thinking of someone different: Doug Mahnke
Eternal Warrior - Brent Anderson
Harbinger - Jim Cheung (read Young Avengers to see my point)
Solar - Bryan Hitch
Magnus Robot Fighter - Ariel Olivetti
Bloodshot - Dave Johnson
Rai - Lenil Yu
Doctor Mirage - Gene Ha (or bernard if he could be re-recruited)
X-O Manowar - Steve McNiven

Alongside these would be some mini series:
HARDCorps - Steve Dillon
Armorines - Sean Chen (okay, I know a VALIANT alumnus)

The original Shadowman, too. Pre-Unity Shadowman.

Jack Boniface out all night, playing Jazz, drinking, smoking, carousing and fighting in New Orleans in that first-person narration style like only Frank can write and draw it.

That would be awesome, I think.
No doubt that would be awesome.

Meh. Miller is great, but the Shadowman I prefer is well-established and isn't this one outlined. I dig that we have all got different views of these things, but I have to diasagree about which is the better Shadowman in VH1 (which is not to say I think I am right and you are wrong - I am not so arrogant to say that there can only be one correct view...). :thumb:

Personally, I enjoyed the books before he got the leather look most. I think the original Shadowman costume is classic.

Which is cool. But we can agree to disagree. :thumb:

More widely, I wonder if for some the fact that one look is associated with pre-Unity and one with post-Unity has a bearing on preference? :hm:

I like what he did on DC's Monolith. I think his style would be perfect for Gilad.

Hitch did the Visitor vs the VALIANT Universe mini and the Ninjak Yearbook, so he's as much of a VALIANT alumnus as Chen, heh.

To tell you the truth, after looking at David Aja's artwork, I think you're idea is probably much better than my own for a contemporary Rai book -- it is indeed some very impressive art (geared toward martial arts to boot) and I imagine a lot of people would be influenced by it were they to pick it up and flip through it.

I'd have Ordway on something though!

What about Magnus? That classic style of his could be well-suited.

Speaking of Rai, wouldn't it be cool if VEI did stories about any Rai prototypes Grandmother came up with before she created the first Rai?

I mean, it doesn't make much sense to believe that the very first Rai she created was a success. There must have been other attempts at replicating Bloodshot, no?

It would also be interesting to see prototypes of Grandmother herself.

When did she gain freewill? 2050?

All great ideas - I do hope DNV will take up a Rai book, and going into "the past" (as per Tohru Nakadai's time) but our future makes perfect sense... we could even get to see the full stories of Shiro Yagami and Sho Sugino, the first and second Rai's, respectively.

BTW - Grandmother went freewill in 3050, not 2050. :thumb:

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

Mind you my choices are based on style I'd like to see in VALIANT or on particular characters not just based on who would bring instant money, I'm also not going to include people who really only (or mostly) do covers (Del Otto, Suydam, Bianchi etc ) My short list:

Gene Ha
David Aja
Shane Davis
John Cassaday
Joe Bennett
All good choices, especially Aja. His work on Iron Fist has been amazing. He'd be perfect on a book like Rai.
Great call.

They should have a mix of vets, current "not quite-vets" and some new blood.

I'd vote new blood. They will have to keep costs down. A strong story is what will keep the books selling.
