The trend nowadays is the X10, x25, x50, xgazillion variants primarily from Marvel and DC. Some are so restrictive/rare they cannot be had by the fan which in IMO is wrong (some are however trez cool). Since the fan is buying the issue and supporting it on a monthly basis, then the low guy on the totem pole should get first crack and not the dealers/speculators (soory for you guys out there). Push the stuff down to the lowest level.

I doubt it. Hopefully, the valiant books would have good stories and wouldn't need all the "chase" books to gain attention. If you can sell a book for like $30 that costs not too much more to make than the regular copies, you should do it if there are people willing to buy it. It's a good short-term strategy, but not long-term - as evidenced by some of the people here who bought into ZS and now appear to be a little miffed with all the variants. The best long term strategy has always been and will always be producing quality stories.slym2none wrote:I had that exact same thought after I heard that ZS #2 was gonna be 'overdone' (IMO) like #1 was.Daniel Jackson wrote:Makes you wonder if John would have done the same with VALIANT.

The only problem with the gold book for the LCS is who gets offered them?k_c_collectibles wrote: ...
Incentive books sould be cool! I think that send-away books could be done like John Taddeo did by entering codes from all the books needed to qualify for a free comic (plus shipping charges). That way you do not have to physically remove something from your comics to qualify for a send-away book.
Gold books could be done for comic shops, but in a lower quantity given the smaller market these days. Probably a gold book for every 15 copies of a regular book ordered or so.

Variants should reward the dedicated fan and not penalise them by heading for over-inflated prices by going through dealers.
Just my two pence, time for a cup of tea I think!
VEI - I look forward to you one day publishing MORE than 9-10 books per month

I don't want to see variant covers that people have to buy. It seems like it is just a way to try to get more money.
I do like the idea of promotions, give aways, and incentives, however. I liked the gold books because of that. I think I would prefer some sort of special/promo comic instead of another item - I mean, I am not collecting toys or something, I am collecting comics!

Well, I'm sure there was some out there already... but back in the comic heyday, I had a black VW Jetta, and had all the plans made out to have the VALIANT compass painted on the hood so I could take a picture and send it in. The weekend before it was to happen, I wrecked the car.....cobra_commander wrote:Who's got a picture of the car paint job?

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

I drive them. Duh...
The Jetta was unfortunate - I was going around a curve I have been around 1000 times before, at the same speed... but there was gravel out in the middle of it this time, and when I turned the steering-wheel, well - let's say, I remember looking out the passenger-side window thinking "I'm sure glad nothing is coming the other way," and then I was crawling out through the sunroof to get out. I know I flipped at least once, maybe more. I honestly do not remember what happened between me looking out the other window and me climbing out the sunroof.
I'm hoping the knock in my current car is nothing major...
