I almost forgot that I emailed him and asked why there was only one Rai 3 as the auction said "MULTIPLE COPIES OF EACH". He agreed to refund 12.00 back to me. so the whole lot was only 39.00 plus 5.50 shipping. Some of the books got damaged in shipping as well but luckly Rai 1-4 were ok.

<yawwwwwwwn>

I passed on the A&A. ;)

As for the Harb, my snipe bid was $20.69. :) 4-6 having coupons isn't worth $20+ who knows what shipping for the lot. I woulda told him to send 4-7 and 35-41, and toss the rest. :)

Check out the Next Men lot.

Yes, it includes #21.

You know, that book that was selling for $100 six months ago. ;)

Heh.

Yeah, well, it's absurd the crap I know about comics. <shrug> Had I only devoted that mental energy to, say, the law, or medicine....

...well.

I'd prolly be making a lot more money.

I had that item in my watch list and forgot why. I really need to use the note function more. I am usually watching close to the 100 auction limit so I sometimes forget to put my snipe in.

Well, from start to finish, it took about 2.5 hours. I had originally stopped by this store 6 months ago, but was only able to look through their normal stock of back issue boxes. The employee was kind enough to let me sift through the rest of their backstock today. They still have 50-60 more boxes in their back room I will try and get to the next time I visit. No pre-unity, but I'll take all the last issues I can get for $.25 each, it's a no brainer.

I went to a not so local show today in Madison WI. I'm in Milwaukee so it's a good hour and a half drive. Very small show which was organized by one of the guys who usually does the other local shows I go to. I was surprised to see Valiants on someone's display board. CGC'ed Valiants, too. He had 9.8's of X-O #1, Rai #1, and some others, all over $100. I passed on all of them (nothing key, just pre Unity first issues mainly). He also had two copies of Chaos Effect Omega Gold (not CGC'ed) for $3.00 each. I also came across a few minor pre-Unity books in another dealer's .50 boxes, including Solar #2, and Magnus #11, 13, and 14. My best find of the day was not Valiant related, I picked up a sweet NM copy of I, Lusiphur #1 for $45 (black cover, so it's more than likely tough in this condition).

After the show I visited a couple of local Madison shops, one was almost more like a head shop, it was in a run down building on the second floor. They specialized in undergrounds, but unfortunately didn't have any older 1st prints that I'm looking for. The next shop was better, but still not a great back issue place. They DID have a copy of the Predator vs. Magnus TPB, which I was happy to snap up at cover price. A very fun day! :D

I've always wondered about the use of the word 'snap' as it refers to 'buying something very quickly, to prevent others from doing same'...

....do you make a sort of *SNAP!* sound when you grab it?

...or do you snap and snarl at anyone else who may want to look at it?

....or do your shoes snap, snap, snap as you run out the door before anyone notices what you've done?

...or is it because the first person to do this had hand bones so brittle from arthritis, they SNAPPED like twigs....?

yes, it was. How the heck did you find anything in there? I looked around and saw some comic boxes in what looked like a back room, but it didn't appear whatever back issues they had were available to be looked at so I didn't bother them. They had more underground type comics there than they had Marvels and DC's, it seemed like, which isn't a bad thing, but is pretty unusual. They had some early issues of Liberty Meadows which were first prints at cover price so I picked those up and that was about it.

The Pred vs. Magnus trade was at Westfield Comics on a spinner rack of bookshelf format books and smaller trades, they were partly in alphabetical order so I was shocked when I saw it next to another Predator trade. I didn't do a lot of rooting through their other back issues, I didn't care for the little boxes they kept their backstock in. My wife found 10 or so beat up copies of Unity #0 Blue in their 25 cent boxes but I passed on those. I was told by the people at the show that Capital Comics was closed on Sunday, so I didn't try to go there. They weren't happy with the guy from Capital Comics because he refused to pass out flyers for the show.

my "snapping" refers to the sound barrier being broken by the speed of my hand reaching for that Predator vs. Magnus book as soon as I saw it on that spinner rack! :D

That was actually one of my bigger Valiant finds as I've never seen one in a store or a comic show before.

I also got another book there which I thought was kind of neat, a double cover copy of Identity Crisis #4. I had no idea it had two covers until I got home. That was the first double cover book I ever pulled off the shelf. Probably not worth any kind of premium, but it looks cool! :)

I understand your excitement as I always look through the racks for these whenever I am in a LCS and have never found one.
I am selling "nothing" on ebay-yet.
