It's easier to read them bound. Just pull them off the shelf, instead of out of bags and boards one by one.slym2none wrote:Seems like it's all more headache than it's worth.
You are right, most aren't worth the paper they are printed on. So why spend even more to get them bound??? Just read the comics...turborip wrote:For many of these titles, they are hardly worth the paper they are printed on anymore, yet if we still enjoy reading them, why not put them into the format you enjoy reading most?

Well, as I implied, it's a format I enjoy more so than single or 'floppy' issues. If it's a series I enjoy, I'd like to read it in a collected edition, whereas I hardly ever pull out my single issues to the point I've sold off items before just because I'm sick of seeing the boxes lie around.slym2none wrote:Seems like it's all more headache than it's worth.

In other instances, I don't feel like double-dipping. If you looked at my photos of my first books, you saw some Green Lantern books. I got those issues dirt cheap from a guy that sold them to me for 50 cents each or so, becaue he had upgraded to trades. For the $10 I spent in issues, and the $15 I spent in binding, plus about $3 per volume to ship (so a total of $28 for the volume), I got at least three trade paperbacks worth of material without having spent the money on the original issues, as well as the upgrade to a trade (or in this case, three trades).
With binding, I can have my cake and eat it too.
You might find it interesting that custom bound volumes have a value all their own, if 'destroying' the value of a comic is a hang-up to you. Search ebay for some bound editions and the final price value may surprise you. I just saw a Miracleman bound edition go for over $2000! Even the out-of-print single issues and trade paperbacks don't go for that much. Yes, that's a rare case, but there's also documented auctions of a Green Goblin bound volume made up of quarter bin GG mini-series fodder in which the final price made the binding cost worth it.
There are several items on my list to get rid of I'm thinking of binding and selling. I figure if I can't even get pennies to the dollar on some of these books (and I think you'll agree, our For Sale lists are not exactly burning up the charts), to bind it for $15 might net me at least that much back from someone too lazy to get it done themselves. If not, than I still have a nice edition of a lesser title I can keep on my shelves, give to a friend, or use for trading fodder on any number of boards and lists I belong to.

To read these as a comprehensive collection will be much nicer than opening & closing single issues.

I think Trip sums it up well. So many books can be picked up from the fodder bins, and they look so much better bound.
I got all of the Conan miniseries in the dollar bin. All of them are great. They are going to look sweet and I promise to post a pic when it comes in. It will be black with a gold CONAN logo on the spine

Too bad there isnt a Troma green buckram. Though Green with orange foil would look *SQUEE* sweet.JustCallMeAric wrote:I am going to have to do with my beloved Toxic Avenger collection. Otherwise I will never read them.
Though I've never seen any Toxic Avenger comics, I got some Toxic Crusaders ones a long long time ago.
But that was kiddie friendly cartoon appropriate toxie, not gunman shooting a seeing eye dog in a taco bell Toxie. God I love troma movies.

Well, they got here yesterday and I am very pleased with the end results:
Here are all of the books in one photo:

Here is the first page of the Identity Crisis book:

About the middle of the book:

Another sweet cover. I was able to get all of IDC for about $4.95 three years ago. All of them are the red reprint covers, and they all look really good. As evidenced by this photo, I took all of the back covers off. I also added the IDC tie-ins from Flash and JLA.

Just the Magnus books:

Here is the first book from Vol 3:

I really like all of the books. Hope all of you enjoy the photos.

Ok so here is the final draft of my tales of the jedi content page

I do have one question though, if I print out the page and trim it down to 10.25 x 6.625 how much of the page will get trimmed with the book? do I need to adjust the image for the total trimming?
I just want it too turn out nice, any help would be appreciated.

Yes, this happens.. before the books are placed in the cover (buckram?) they trim them down so they are all the same size. Im not sure if there is a standard size they trim to or if they just trim it until its smooth...tarheelmarine wrote:For my books it seemed like a an 1/8th of an inch was trimmed from the top, and left side.
Its kind of a bummer.. but I dont think I lost any artwork..

I haven't decided if I'm gonna do this or not yet. I know the space will be at a premium, especially with the Magnus books. But I also like the idea of having the whole comic there to see: ads, editorials, back cover and all. Decisions, decisions...IanAlexavier wrote:dave wrote:Dang those Magnus books are huge! Still smaller than a long box though. When I send mine in, I cut off the back cover and any pages that dont have story on them.. so the editorial pages and any page with adverts on both sides get cut out.

For books like Valiant, I really like "reliving" those days...ads, editorials, everything. So I leave it in. Vol 1 of my Magnus book is big because I put all of the miniseries in it. Vol 2 is the complete Malev War, with RFF included. Eventually, I want to get Rai 1-8, and 24-33 bound in one book.Phoenix8008 wrote:I haven't decided if I'm gonna do this or not yet. For books like DC, DarkHorse, (anything published 2000 to present) I take out the back page and leave the front cover. Going form the last page to the next cover is pretty cool.
