Steve, which Batman dies do you need? Houchen has the "new Batman logo" which is weird cause so does Raymer. I have several volumes of Legends of the Dark Knight and Knigtfall/Quest/End/Prodigal still to bind. Depending on the die, if you decide to get them bound by H&R and have a die made, I'll could split it with you.

I still dont know what to do about the Valiants though, it would be actually cheaper in the longrun to have H&R create the die since there is virtually no/low usage cost as opposed to to paying $6 at Houchen...but Houchen already has the die..AAARGH! its driving me crazy and I really want to get these books bound.

Below is the spine I'm trying to match:

Image

The 1980s DC Bullet and I think the late 80s/early 90s Batman logo from the front covers. I'll have to check on both Houchens and Raymers to see if either has it.

I decided to go with Herring and Robinson and request Joel to have the Valiant spine logo die made (all dies will remain at the company). There is no usage charge so its actually cheaper than Houchen.

I also want to have the Acclaim die made. Does anyone have a hi-res pic of the Acclaim logo (Acclaim Comics/Valiant Heroes)?

I am hoping that the regular Valiant logo I have will be good enough. Having dies made all at once costs a lot less, if anyone has any Valiant related spine/ cover hi res scans for dies, please let me know. I will have them made and leave them with Joel for future use.
I will also have various Batman symbol dies made.

If you want to get back into binding, I do recommend Herring & Robinson. I just got a call from Joel today, that my Sandman Mystery Theatre (book 2) was missing issue #37) . Their attention to detail is great :thumb: LBC would have just bound it as is

Valiant Future Mapping

Post by Malev_Emperor »

IanAlexavier,

As we have discussed privately, I am mapping all of Valiant's future titles for binding in several volumes. i wanted to thank you for mapping out each Valiant title! It is making my job go along a lot faster!

I have a question involving Bloodshot # 4 & 5. The story takes place in both in (then) present day 1990's and 4002, just after the Malev Invasion. The linking character her is, of course, Gilad the Eternal Warrior who allies with Bloodshot in the (then) present and recalls the adventure as he goes on the attack looking for Rentaro Nakadai who is being held captive by the Malevs.

The Malev Emperor states they are on their way to Earth (presumably for the initial Malev Invasion) in Bloodshot #4. In Bloodshot #5, Gilad and the "true" Rai, Takao Konishi rescue Rentaro from the Malev's clutches. Magnus is nowhere to be found.

Where would I place this in the mapping? I was thinking right after Rai #0 would be the ideal place, since Rai #0 was the first appearance of Bloodshot and it could tie in nicely, but...

When Gilad and Rai join up in Bloodhsot #5, it is clear they know each other already. Since Rai (and the Future Force) #9 is the first place they meet, this tale would have to come after THAT issue.

Not helping things any is the fact that they wrongly date some of the future story as taking place in 4001! Lots of lil corrections to be made before I bind these suckers in chronological order!!

Malev Emperor

Darque Passages

Post by dholden007 »

The Shadowman TPB came with an insert comic Darque Passages. Does anyone have this. I am curious what was it about. I didnt see any discussion on it. I am just thinking if it should have been included in my Shadowman bind, which I shipped out last week. Its not in Ian's orginal mapping post so maybe not too important.
If anyone has it, is it something worthwhile to get. I never even saw it.

My Rai and Magnus will have separate Book 1's.. but then be combined for Books 2 and 3.
good pick up.

THis is my take on Phenixs binding.
I like smaller books ~ because I think VCS unity book is big already.

Book 1: Original MRF 1, MRF & Nexus 1-2, Vintage MRF 1-4, MRF YB1, MRF 0-4, MRF/Rai flipbook 5-8, MRF 9-11, Predator vs. MRF 1-2, MRF 12-14.

25 books

Book 2: RAI 0-5 ,MRF 15, RAI 6, MRF 16, RAI 7-8, MRF 17-24, RFF 9, MRF 25, RFF 10-11, MRF 26-29,

27 :o .

Book 3. RFF 12-15, MRF 30, RFF 16, MRF 31, RFF 17, MRF 32-33, RFF 18. MRF 34, RFF 19, MRF 35, RFF 20, MRF 36, RFF 21, MRF 37, RFF 22-23, MRF 38-39, PSI 1-3

25 books

Book 4:, MRF 40, RAI 24-26, MRF 41, Chaos Effect Omega, CE Ep1-2, MRF 42, RAI 27-30, MRF 43-46, PSI 4-7, Destroyer 0, PSI 8-10,

24 books

Book 5: MRF 47-48, RAI 31-33, MRF 49-64.

20 books, but my add appendix, unseen art, odds and ends.

Book 6. Magnus 1 ~18 accliam. Dark horse 1~4 mini series?

22 books.

I am trying to keep the bindinds smaller, also with new chapters starting at the start of a new book. I would prefer even smaller, Still playing with the idea of 7 bound books.THis will be my first set bound, and is already to go. Just have to get organised, and get it done.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I will need to find this issue and look through it. I have not sent my Shadowman books out yet... that map must have come from another member.

GOt a great break down for 7 books.

The first is like an introduction.
Second lead in
Book 3 and 4 Malv war ~ plus a few issues leading into book
5 with most of PSI Lords in it.
Book 6
book 7 Accliam.

I am going with this & book system. THe only thing I am not happy with is the Malv war Book 4. As it Book 4 still contains additional issues to bulk it out a bit.

Otherwise its cool.
Kind of reminds me of the Big Russian novels, War and Peace aswell Crime and punshment ()the only two I have read). WIth sub stories and links, but all tying together. So I am not to bothered with book 4, as the story continues, and before book 4 ends it is like a wind down after the main event.

Basically, Rai #0 is just Rockland Tate's recounting the tale of the Blood of Heroes (Valiant history) to the new Rai, Takao Konishi, just before he accepts the "Blood of Heroes" into his body.

STORYWISE - Rai # 0 works best between Rai #8 and Rai & the Future Force #9. The ending leads directly into Rai #9 and the new Rai's first battle in the Malev War.

otherwise, you have this big build up and then u have to wait 8 issues for it to pay off.

I will be posting my ultimate Future Valiant chronology mapping later in the week! So excited to be almost done!!

As far as Secrets of the Valiant Universe #3 goes, I have put that issue at the beginning of Book 1, since it chronologically takes place before the entire Rai series and concludes with Grandmother choosing the House of Nakadai as the successor to the Rai mantle.

Also, do not forget Bloodshot #4 & 5 - nice past/future story here featuring Future Gilad Ani-Padda that takes place during the Malev War. Also features Takao Konishi and Rentaro Nakadai! PLUS the Malev Emperor! I would not consider the Malev War storyline complete without it!!
