Re: I might be out on Valiant
I'd say the difference between Rai and Dr. Mirage is just what their intentions were from the start. Rai was pitched and had story set up for a long term ongoing series, whereas Dr. Mirage was only meant to be a mini-series fleshing out the character. The pauses for Rai weren't expected at the start. They did the first arc and maybe planned to switch up artists, but Crain's art was so loved (or him and Kindt jived so well on it together) that they decided after the first few issues to wait and give him time to do the next arc instead of switching artists like they probably originally planned. The pause for Dr. Mirage was for Van Meter to decide if she wanted to do another book, and then to come up with a story for it probably.lorddunlow wrote:Dark fantasy is my favorite genre. i'm halfway through reading the book of death hard cover. it's great! maybe i'll just stick with hardcovers.
Same. I caught up on a lot on my vacation. I'll report here when I'm completely caught up.
But: WOW, CAN WE GET A FREAKING DOCTOR MIRAGE ONGOING????? Best book VEI produces by a huge margin.
Thought I'd ask because personally I really, really enjoyed the first mini, but found the second a bit... Er... Not sure how to say it really. Lacklustre?
What was it about the second mini that you really liked? (Genuine question, not trying to get your back up)
It does, however, seem completely disconnected from the VEI universe. Honestly, rename the characters and this could be an Image book by Van Meter.
To be honest, I can't figure out why Doctor Mirage and Divinity are being released as minis but Rai is an ongoing. All have pauses between arcs for the artists to catch up, then resume the story in the next arc. Just weird. Constant number 1s...

Some good points here that I think quite a few of us probably long forgot about!Phoenix8008 wrote:I'd say the difference between Rai and Dr. Mirage is just what their intentions were from the start. Re: I might be out on Valiant
My current pull-list for Valiant is way down at the moment to:
Bloodshot Reborn
Ninjak
A&A (only the current arc)
that's not so much as being 'out' on Valiant as it is titles not being published that work for me. I'd happily buy books of:
Shadowman
Quantum & Woody (I really like these books)
Master Darque (A Darque Passages mini / maxi would be cool)
A team book (This was Unity in its early issues)

Re: I might be out on Valiant
Hey, kids -
Wanted to jump in here - VERY late to the game.
I was in on the all Valiant variant some time into the early Unity stuff. When the numbers pushed to the 1:125 variant range. As soon as that hit - I was out on variants. Somewhere JUST before Divinity. Of course. I've been buying a copy of each - and will read. Eventually. Maybe. Stopped reading somewhere in the early Imperium-ish.
About half a gajillion things have slowed me down. Will I get back around? Perhaps. I feel some allegiance to the small business aspect part of it. But life somehow got in the way. While I miss you all - I also miss the hard pursuit and flip through the reads.
Funnily enough, Valiant has taken off at my LCS. When I went through Free Comic Book Day - and the week after - five people stopped me and mentioned that they were reading as a result of my suggestion at the beginning. LCS now has a display of Valiant TPBs by the door that are selling.
Miss all of you. Will stop in again. Summer is approaching.

Great might be much more than a bit of a stretch. But good to see the place is not so different than when I left.ShadowTuga wrote:HA! The great kevinbastos!!!!!kevinbastos wrote:Hey, kids -

I recently started re-reading a bunch of my old New Universe comics & thought of your old podcast. I had found a big batch of PSIForce comics I was missing at a store that kicked me off on that tangent. As I recall, you sent me a copy of #32 a couple years back.
