I don't doubt it is a real scan of the artwork just that my rtrust factor is very low. I mean David lapham seems like a better business person than to sell his artwork like this. I mean he probably has 100's of fans at every show asking him to sell his work for the past several years. just seems odd to let someone with so few sales to sell for him.sonicdan wrote:I requested a larger size scan from the seller

I think, he is throwing a feelier out there to see how much his work can pull in on eBay, then he will add some predetermined amount to it and sell it on his own site, bypassing eBay and all the bogus fees associated with it!x-omatic wrote:I don't doubt it is a real scan of the artwork just that my rtrust factor is very low. I agree with this. We're talking about a heck of a lot of money to be throwing around with 3 or 4 eBay members we know nothing about (the seller, two or three of the bidders). It's just too easy to get screwed.

i've bought some ed benes pieces off ebay from mr. benes's agent. given that he's busy drawing superman right now, it makes sense to have someone who represents you sell your stuff than to do it yourself. i'd guess he doesn't have a lot of free time.magnusr wrote:Btw, had I been interested in this cover, I would have preferred some little indication of why this seller is selling for David Lapham.

every seller has to start somewhere. all of us who sell on ebay started out with 0 feedback. it's only because people have given us the chance to prove what we can do that we have higher feedback.x-omatic wrote:just seems odd to let someone with so few sales to sell for him.
if mr. lapham were to sell them himself on ebay, he'd probably have to create an account, and would have no feedback. better to use one that has a track record (even a small one) to sell high dollar stuff like this.

I can tell you that if he were to post them on his website I certainly would be willing to pay much more than through a questionable ebay account.daydreamscomics wrote:every seller has to start somewhere. all of us who sell on ebay started out with 0 feedback. it's only because people have given us the chance to prove what we can do that we have higher feedback.x-omatic wrote:just seems odd to let someone with so few sales to sell for him.

Lots of great comic artist sell their art pieces through representatives, either eBay or via webpages. I see no problem here, although I agree the "new account factor" maybe seen as a potential risk, especially for those of us who have ever had a bad experience with sellers. This one seems legit to me . Maybe the best way to be 100% sure everythings for good is seeing if mr Lapham is really selling his art via website in november, as the seller sated in his auction, or a direct contact with Lapham himself via e-mail.
Just my 2 cents (of an euro)

and if they are selling stuff for mr lapham, and they are board members-why did boda have to bring it to our attention? it would have been much better to come on here and say hey...i work for lapham and we're considering selling...and then sell-plus, selling harby 4 to "get a feel" for the market is absurd-that is one that will command the highest price-what other cover of his would go higher? shadowman 1-3?
I think these would do better.dave wrote:and if they are selling stuff for mr lapham, and they are board members-why did boda have to bring it to our attention? it would have been much better to come on here and say hey...i work for lapham and we're considering selling...and then sell-plus, selling harby 4 to "get a feel" for the market is absurd-that is one that will command the highest price-what other cover of his would go higher? shadowman 1-3?

Was it established the seller was a board member?
If so I didn't catch that. I thought it was said the high bidder was a board member.
In any event, yeah a lot of artists have reps to handle art sales. Esp.
those with a higher profile and working alot, like Lapham.
I don't see anything that unusual about the sale. Yeah the seller has low
feedback, but as it's been mentioned you gotta start somewhere.
Also, they are probably seeing what the interest is and if anything
underestimated what the demand may potentially be.
This cover should bring over $1000+ unless bidders are conservative
based on the feedback.
