That bites ... the guys at my shop like to talk video games too, but they're there first for comics. One guy reads every single comic that comes out and since I've been buying books there for a decade he knows what I like and makes recommendations.

A lot of comics shops have gone out of business, but my shop keeps going because they pay attention. It's a shame some places can't clue in to that simple concept.

Hey, you think you get laughed at for Valiant books, go in and buy New Universe, Defiant, Judge Dredd, or Elf Quest books. See what happens then.
Good morning.

Yeah, thanks to that dim whit, I am to the point that I hate Playstation, and could care less if I ever play one again!
Good morning.

:o :o :o :o

They probably go "Scott Tenorman" on you and burn the books in front of your face. Thus pushing you to go "Erik Cartman" on them.

The last time I got laughed at in a comic store, I had a simple reply.

"I have a beautiful wife, I make more in a week than you do in a year, and oh yeah - I get PAID to beat the *SQUEE* out of people who *SQUEE* me off."

Um, so who laughs at you in a comic store?

Their geeks, but they're generally smart geeks.

I find that the ones that snigger are generally dumber than a stump and about as motivated...

If they're so smart, how come they are still woking in the store? I don't buy the "Oh if I applied myself", "I'm just not motivated", or "I have ADD" or any excuse. We all have potential to do great (and terrible) things. Where they are (and we are) right now is a direct result of life choices they made.

If they were so smart, they wouldn't still be sitting at a comic store. Potential doesn't pay the bills, keep gasoline in my cars, or food in my belly.

OK fine. Maybe they're not so smart.

But still, it does not take a genius to realise that you just don't laugh at big scary men that wear tights and make-up

Yeah, but some people don't care who they *SQUEE* off because it's always the other persons fault. Sometimes it is, but most of the time, the moron behind the counter has a flippant mouth and deserves what ever he gets.

I posted this when came up awhile back but I don't this problem. Retailers I go to tend to want to get rid of the issues. They actually say all nice and shining about Valiant (maybe to be nice, probably to get me to buy more).

Though it seems hypocritical for one of them who was extremely anti-Valiant for the first four years they published. he would keep them on the shelf but insult the comics, creators, ect. He didn't like Shooter so I suspect that was the main thing. Then when Accliam bought it he piped down his Valiant insults. Actually started saying good things about them. Maybe he was impressed by the artist (they hired a friend of his to do some work) or maybe he saw the sells and figured his mission was accomplished.

They're shakin' dice all day and listening to bad college radio.
I know I have (and I like to think most members of this board have) more class than the average LCS employee.

For example, JediMarley... :thumb:

Make-up? We, uh, don't wear, um, make-up.

What was that? War Paint? Yes, *that* sounds like winner! Let's go with war paint!

(*phew*, Almost couldn't think of a way out of that one, lucky for me I got the assist...)

But seriously, though, I'm normally not "in gear" when I'm shopping for comic books. It HAS happened, but only once. :)

i can't imagine what that day was like...fan-boys ducking for cover!

two of my lcs's are actually aware of the fact that valiants are worth something-one guy thinks only the vh-2 really demands any $ (which is why i keep scoring pre-unity there, and the other guy prices things pretty much in relation to how much things were worth back in the day (preunity= $2 post unity =$1 but all #1's are $2! including turok!)

The comic shop I worked at for a while had a professional wrestler that had a "pull-box" there - Shane Helms, I guess better known for being "The Hurricane" in the WWE. The guy was pretty laid-back, I have to admit. Of course, if he was actually 200+ pounds, I'd eat my left shoe.

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

i got to be the big dork today! new LCS...so the guy asks me atthe top off his voice if he can help me...i was directed to the dollar bins... :|

the thing is-eventhough they think i'm the dork, they were talking back and forth about some huge CONTROVERSY about some sort of initiation into a hero-clix game or something? someone was fellowshipped without proper approval or something like that, and she was a girl! (and she won! dang it!) somehow she beat their reigning champion...i dunno-i was trying NOT to listen but he was "one fo those" shop owners-the kind that assume that you want to be a part of their conversation...

i left as quickly as i could.

Very cool. Hurricane seems like a pretty cool guy. And everybody knows that there's only been one wrestler who's ever gotten his correct weight announced - Playboy Buddy Rose, at a slim trim 219.

Have any of you been to Rob Van Dam's shop in CA? I live here and still haven't been able to make it out there yet. His web site is pretty cool though.
