Sellers who attempt to increase profit through higher shipping charges generally see lower auction prices as bidders compensate. Some bidders avoid shipping-profiteers altogether.

I know that's true for me. The only time I have paid exorbitant shipping was for a statue I bought. The opening (and winning) bid was $9.99, but shipping was $30. The only reason I bought it was because the opening on all the others like it was at least $40 (no shipping included).
