If I want to talk about the reason I like to keep books out of slabs or have the occassional book IN a slab, that is my right to do so and I exercise it upon my whim. I plan on practicing this more in the future when things cool down a bit.
If you look at it ALL the topics on this board have been gone over and over again. So why even post hmmmm ?
To discuss... thats why.
To make an occassional 'funny'... thats why.
To perhaps learn something... thats why.
To have someone complain about the content of my post... thats wh...... no wait, that is NOT one of the reasons why.

Reasons? I say opinions... and what benefits are there? It's not archivally safe, and CGC recommends you have them re-slabbed every 7 years - what a hassle.Peter Parker wrote:Good lord, the same ol' ignorant "comics were meant for reading" crap people always seem to write down on these boards![]()

It's all opinion, Peter, and as much as I can't take away yours, you can't take away mine. IMO, there is no real reason to have a book slabbed other than if one were to sell said book so the buyer could be (relatively) assured of the condition of the book. No matter what the label may say, the label itself doesn't make the book any prettier. I have valuable books, and I own reprints of said books to actually read so I won't potentially damage the valuable ones, but (again IMO) I don't see the need to slab the one that's valuable. Besides, Mylars protect the book better and don't need to be changed, ever.
Argue away, if you want... it won't change my opinion.

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

It could be argued that the slab and label presentation does make the book's presentation prettier, I guess.slym2none wrote: No matter what the label may say, the label itself doesn't make the book any prettier.

soundoftheuniverse wrote:I've got a short box of potential 9.8's and a few Magnus 1's that I think are 9.9 or 10. Most of my Valiants I bought from local collectors here in seattle who where EXTREMELY ANAL collectors. Almost all of my #1's where still in the oriiginal 10/12 packs the way they were shipped from Diamond. From there they went into Mylites.
Once you've got a dozen or so 9.6's and 9.8's it's not tough to tell the differences between the two. The only book I've sold ungraded that got graded thought was 9.8 Unity Red came back by Boda a 9.6.
As Greg's explained a few times in the past. That 9.6's can be the verge of being a 9.8 or on the low end and nearly a 9.4. I feel good I've got a load of 9.8's ungraded but no urgency to get them slabbed atm.

SOTU! Now that is what I'm talking about. Haven't seen you around in a while, its good to hear from you.

I believe you have that many high grade books, for I know you have a many a high grade slabbed valiants.

You ought to register your slabs in the CGC Registry. I know you would do well.

I have lots of Valiants I bought from Ebay in the 1997-1999 timeframe.Ricomortis wrote:![]()

Honestly, I'm not sure I want to take a closer look at them
now that 9.6 and 9.8 are the standards (and I own examples).
Most were described as "near mint", but you know how that goes.
I consider my Valiant collection as a "time capsule" for early Ebay...
I paid early Ebay prices, and I got early Ebay grading... for better or worse.
(...and it's already been 5 years since I've looked in most of the boxes.)

Hey, i'll not only stand behind EVERYTHING i write on these boards, i'll be more than happy to "meet up" with anyone in person at anytime :x
I'm no geek, no freak, and I don't scare AT ALL

Half of you didn't even UNDERSTAND my original point in my posting to begin with, so what you're responding to is beyond my knowledge

Remember, Savir has a NYC VCC meeting coming up correct? anyone who wants to meet me in person for a "work out" just let me know ...yeah, right

and also do so for a living.

Peter Parker,
I don't know anything about you or how you may or may not treat people in person compared to how you would treat them here. But I do know this: There was a very pleasant conversation going on here until you came in and called people's comments and opinions "ignorant." If you don't have anything to add to the conversation, just keep quiet and move on to another thread. There was really no need for that.

Go back and re-read this and you will see that Peter Parker was and is the one who is defending himself ( in his own way ) because of his opinion on grading comics.Heath wrote:Peter Parker,

Re: Curious....
And to answer the original question...
Actually, since I have several other copies of the regular #0, I may actually send it it. It would be the first CGC for me.
I'm quite confident it could get a 9.8. But if I do send it in, I'll let you guys know what grade it gets.
I do. I have a Shadowman #0 Gold that is immaculate. Sure, it's not a rare pre-Unity issue, but it's something.Ricomortis wrote: How many of you seriously think you don't own one HG valiant worth sending in to cgc?

I really don't think his opinion was "attacked" at all. Unless someone voicing an opinion that may be different from his is considered an "attack." Nobody ever called his opinions about slabbing books ignorant crap (unless in another thread that I haven't seen). That post of his (which was his 2nd post in this thread) was the first attack here.jedimarley wrote:Go back and re-read this and you will see that Peter Parker was and is the one who is defending himself ( in his own way ) because of his opinion on grading comics.

And just to be clear, I'm still not "attacking" his opinion on CGC'd books. I really don't care what he does with his own books. All I'm saying is there was no need to be a jerk about it.
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

I've got about a short box full of 9.6s+ I might submit one day, but I'm happy with them ungraded for now. For the most part, the stuff that I buy through ebay or find in bins isn't NM. If I CAN find those real nice copies in person at cons and what not, I'm often willing to pay close to or over guide depending on what it is.
I'm sure there are still a lot of nice copies out there, but not THAT many. They are tough to come by.
