Same here. That's why I stopped buying new stuff a few years back.aggr1103 wrote:I've said it a hundred times but my frustration with new comics is the fact that within a very short period of time they become quarter to dollar bin fodder. I pick up a new issue here and there if its something I'm interested in, but at $2.99 each its not worth it for me at this point.

For a long time I stopped buying new comics, and generally settled on going to the used book store to grab some newer comics (within the last 5 years or so) for 1/2 off cover price, or find some quarter comics. But as much as I say that I'm over comic books, I usually come back to them. I re-read my own collection over and over (pretty modest collection: about 6 small boxes, and around 30 trades).
I was buying Amazing Spider-Man when it went tri-monthly, and was buying that for about 4 or 5 months (and blew 40 bucks on back issues that I missed). I stopped buying that title because I got fed up with it.
I was buying All-Star Batman whenever it came out, but now that it got cancelled, well, there you go.
Recently though, I came to the conclusion that I do NOT want monthly comics to go away, and though I am only one person and my involvement won't change anything, I figured the LEAST I could do was buy titles from creators that I believe in, support, and respect.
So, my "pull" list is:
1) Savage Dragon by Erik Larsen
2) Batman Oddessy by Neal Adams
3) Dr. Solar from Dark Horse
4) Magnus from Dark Horse
I will also buy Turok and Mighty Samson when they come out, simply because I support and admire Jim Shooter.
Comics are getting so expensive that I can't afford to really get more than that. At $3.50 a pop ($4 for the Batman), that's $21.50 a month before taxes. I can barely afford it!
I love comic books, and I know full well that eventually monthlies will go digital. It is the most logically next step.
Oh well. I think the "Research and Development" thing that comics are for these big corporations can only get them so far--I think they would rather charge $2 for a digital copy than $4 for a printed copy--I think they would actually MAKE more money! If they charge $4 for a digital copy, then, well, I will not support that garbage. That is just price gouging, knowing what I know about the comics creation process (what Diamond takes out of the price, what the stores take, etc). I think digital comics are worth at most $2. Though, I think many think they are worth even less than that.
I feel sad for the comic stores, but I think they will all eventually go away--without Marvel and DC, they cannot support themselves. And when that happens, any printed comic books will go the way of newsstand, book stores like Borders or Barnes and Noble, or mail order.

*Update*
Comics have become the worst thing I've ever seen!
I've actually taken the advice (unconsciously) into buying the 70's thru the 90's & early 2000's era of comics.![]()
And I've gotten to the point where I HATE the digital painted covers.
Marvel. CRAP!
DC. CRAP!
I buy dynamite's project superpowers, IDW's tranformers, and most of my purchases come from either the artist or the writer that WRITES comic books.
NOT and I repeat NOT some author who was tapped to WRITE comics, a GENUINE COMICBOOK WRITER!![]()
Are there any really left?![]()
So like some said in the past of this thread, I never fully left.
But I have lost my drive to be apart of the industry (I REAAALLLY wanted to be a comicbook artist you just don't know!) but I've a bitter taste in my mouth from the betrayal of the big two.

Nto super current because I've been focused on a commercial art at-home course.

It certainly is tempting to just shop eBay for bargain runs for a few years ago than buying new comics.Daniel Jackson wrote:Same here. Sure saves a lot of money over paying cover price.StarBrand wrote:It certainly is tempting to just shop eBay for bargain runs for a few years ago than buying new comics.Daniel Jackson wrote:Same here. Yes, and you can buy runs of proven stuff you know will be good and read consecutive issues at your leisure without waiting.Daniel Jackson wrote:Sure saves a lot of money over paying cover price.StarBrand wrote:It certainly is tempting to just shop eBay for bargain runs for a few years ago than buying new comics.Daniel Jackson wrote:Same here.
