Re: huge bulk lots of vh1
The funny thing is...
Since the seller doesn't know anything about Solar coupons, there's a chance they don't know anything about Harbinger coupons either.
If they only know about Magnus coupons, then they might be checking the edge of the Harbinger and Solar books (without opening them) looking for the strip of thick trading cards... and not seeing any.
So, the Solar books don't have coupons, but the Harbinger books might. He just didn't see coupons like Magnus.
Lazy people are sometimes lazy in your favor.

Re: huge bulk lots of vh1
Yeah - that occurred to me as well.
I also find it _really_ improbable that _none_ of the Harbinger 1-6 books have coupons. Because nobody would go out of their way to collect a whole bunch like that. Which also explains the Harbinger 1 bids. I'd be willing to bet a strong percentage of the Harbinger 1s have coupons, which explains the high bidding so far.
Still - where'd the EW 4s go?

The fact that there are multiple Harbinger #0 Pink does indicate that someone cut some coupons, though.Rai-fan wrote:Yeah - that occurred to me as well.

And with about the same number of 0's as 1's.... Putting at all on "red" or "black" is a better use of your money.greg wrote:The fact that there are multiple Harbinger #0 Pink does indicate that someone cut some coupons, though.Rai-fan wrote:Yeah - that occurred to me as well.

Re: huge bulk lots of vh1
I disagree.
I don't think this is all off-the-shelf store stock. Primarily because _nobody_ kept back 50+ copies each of X-O 1 or Shadowman 1 during that time period.
Yes - the Shadowman 8s, X-Force 1s, Rai 0s, and others look like they're uncirculated (in bags of 10), but the Harbinger 1s, Solar 1-2s, Magnus 1s, etc. do not.
Also, the seller's got 5 copies of Magnus 0, but seems to indicate all the Magnus 1-8s have coupons. In addition, if the Magnus books were cannibalized to get the Magnus 0s, where are the copies of 2-8? Sure - the Magnus 0s might be coupon-less but I think the more likely scenario is:
The 1993+ books are unread store stock, but that the dealer also stockpiled pre-unity back issues during 1993 -- like everyone else.
(That's what my LCS did, and there were all those conventions in 1993 when _every_ dealer had 10-30 apiece of every pre-Unity book.)
So in that scenario, the Harbinger 1-6s weren't the same ones cannibalized for Harbinger 0.

Well those Harry's aren't cheap if they don't have the coupons, I think some bidders were affected by your comment Greg.

I said "there's a chance", "might", and "sometimes". That's good enough to easily get anyone out of obstruction of justice, so I'm not worried about comic book recommendation liability.GGSAE wrote:I think some bidders were affected by your comment Greg.

And there's 'a chance this could return 20% this year!".....very borderline.....I guess we'll have to wait and see, can someone find out if ol' porky bought these from a hoarder or if they are all store-stock (one purchased as opposed to a collection of multiple purchases).greg wrote:I said "there's a chance", "might", and "sometimes". Re: huge bulk lots of vh1
I've written about Porky's in the past here, and I just want to go on the record about my experience again so that folks are going into this eyes wide open. It was not positive. He overgrades (like NM with completely rusted staples), ships in shocking ways (manilla envelope with no cardboard reinforcement), and is bordering hostile when issues are raised. I purchased from him 6 times (per my email) and after a few bad experiences, i only purchased from him where I was OK with bad service/product because it was rare or difficult to get.
This is certainly a notable collection, and for our sakes, I hope it sells for a market rate. However, my experience with Porky's has been very, very poor. Probably one of my top 3 worst eBay experiences.
I believe Elveen knows him, and has stood up for him, but my experiences have been very different.

The last time I heard this many folks talking about Porky's like this was a group of Florida high schoolers in 1951 who were trying to help their buddy lose his virginity!nycjadie wrote:I've written about Porky's in the past here, and I just want to go on the record about my experience again so that folks are going into this eyes wide open. Long story short, this led them to seek revenge on a sleazy nightclub owner named Porky with mixed results.

That lot sold Saturday night.
Here's the link:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/292155098428" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
But the quantity is believable to me because he also sold:
NYX # 1 (x 76)
NYX # 2 (x 65) and
NYX # 4 (x 4)
For those who can't read the link above, the 26 "Near Mint" copies of NYX # 3 sold Saturday evening for a total of $10,500 (+ $20 shipping).
I could totally see a dealer having overstock of # 1 (x 76), # 2 (x 65), # 3 (x 26) and # 4 (x 4).
Same reason Sword of Azrael 3 & 4 are much harder to find than 1 & 2.

A lot of these are at much less than I expected. Any predictions for certain lots?
Re: huge bulk lots of vh1
Have you looked at the lots that ended last night? Prices were _strong_, at least for the first appearances.
I think the snipers will be out in full force tonight, holiday weekend and all.
I'm a bit confused by how high the Rai 0 (x 50) and (x 100) lots are already though. When I scanned recent completed lots it looked like the book was selling for about $6-8 per, and the bidding's already at $7.20 per and $12.20 per, respectively -- with 12 hours to go.
And forgive me -- I've been out of the VH1 market for awhile, but EW 4 is still considered the primary Bloodshot key, right? Or have the tides shifted to Rai 0?

Rai 0 is still a big key and has been neck and neck with the EW 4.
Re: huge bulk lots of vh1
Sure -- but in my mind -- as someone who bought both of those books off the shelf -- EW 4 is the much harder book.
Rai 0 was hyped beforehand -- almost to the point of Unity 0, and orders were through the roof (for the time).
In contrast, nobody hyped or speculated on EW 4 from day 1. That only came a few months later when Wizard pointed out the Bloodshot cameo.
But Rai 0 was billed ahead of time as a major Valiant key -- "future of the Valiant Universe" & all that -- and we all ordered accordingly.

Re: huge bulk lots of vh1
EW 4 has been the stronger book in high grade for the last few years in terms of price. However, there have been nearly twice as many high grade sales of Rai 0. What does that mean? Theoretically, a Rai 0 is going to be more in demand than a EW 4, but it will sell for less. I think it's more complicated than that, but there you go.

Re: huge bulk lots of vh1
Rai #0 has a sexier (and more iconic) cover, with 150,000 copies (with an unknown (1:20?) number of "Glossy" variants).
EW #4 had 100,000 printed copies, so is about 2/3 less common AND was NOT babied as much as Rai #0. EW #4 is the 1st appearance, however, most collectors will agree that BOTH are "must have" books.
There are a few CGC 9.9 Rai #0's (and 1 CGC 10), but ZERO EW #4's above 9.8.
The Rai #0 (Glossy) is the rarest of the three.

FYI, I just asked the seller if he really had checked all the Harbinger books for coupons. My question was associated with the Harbinger 1 lot, but I asked about all the Harbingers ending tonight. I got back:
-------
New message from: porkyscomics (77,883PurpleShooting Star)
Yes. No cards or coupons
-------
FYI. Good luck all.
