Re: February 2016 Sales Discussion
Well, the other factor here is their stated target of nine titles per month. So if some mini-runs don't go beyond a certain number of issues (like Timewalker at 12), that frees up room in the calendar to release something new, like Britannia.wwise03 wrote:I see plenty of people predicting that certain books won't make it past certain issue numbers, presumably because they think the sales are too low at this stage in their lives (i.e., Wrath of the Eternal Warrior).
I very much like this model since the mini-runs are story driven and when it's over, they go into hibernation instead of simply trying to come up with the next villain for a new arc. This way, story arcs don't feel forced or phoned in and it allows the company to expose a new facet of the universe with new characters.
Seeing what happened with Divinity, I predict Britannia will debut BIG. People want new.

Oh, no offence taken - I was strictly joking there! Alas, a misfired attempt at humour - my post was completely meant to be "tongue-in-cheek" sillinesswwise03 wrote:I see plenty of people predicting that certain books won't make it past certain issue numbers, presumably because they think the sales are too low at this stage in their lives (i.e., Wrath of the Eternal Warrior). I also see people trying desperately to justify what they perceive to be low sales numbers (i.e., the industry was down as a whole in February, thus it is ok that Valiant's sales were low). Finally, I see posts that indicate that most books put out by Valiant are shrinking in sales. While these posts may not be complete the total gloom and doom posts that we've seen on these boards in the past, the implication in some of these posts are that Valiant's sales are shrinking and/or unsustainable. I simply sought to point out that I believe Valiant is in a good position to continue putting out books for several years. I did not mean to offend you.grendeljd wrote:I fail to see anything that resembles doom and/or gloom in this post. No worries. Now that I read your post again, I picked up on the "tongue and cheek" silliness.grendeljd wrote:Oh, no offence taken - I was strictly joking there! I do think these boards sometimes lean a little heavily on the month to month progress of Valiant, rather than seeing the 30,000 foot view. Of course that is probably because we all want Valiant to do so well so that we can keep reading these fine books for a long time and so that Dinesh and company are rewarded for taking a gamble and producing quality content.

Re: February 2016 Sales Discussion
Dinesh said at NY Special Edition last year that they're not holding to a specific limit on number of titles. The only restraining factor is their ability to produce quality books. When they're in a position to offer up more books at the same level of quality, it seems they will do so.jmatt wrote:Well, the other factor here is their stated target of nine titles per month.wwise03 wrote:I see plenty of people predicting that certain books won't make it past certain issue numbers, presumably because they think the sales are too low at this stage in their lives (i.e., Wrath of the Eternal Warrior).
