It would be really fun if it was not his first apperance!geocarr wrote:Why doesn't the label indicate that this is the first appearance of Divinity?
Valiant may have hidden him in a previous book,
now that would be epic.
No matter how whimsical that thought is, it would be a crazy twist.
I wish their was a Spinal Tap comic, and I had a copy CGC graded at 11.

It's likely that CGC gets their first appearance info from other sources, and at the time of slabbing there may not have been a source for that info.

So now I'm hearing rumblings that the "Valiant Next 2015 Preview" is the actual first appearance of Divinity due to its publication date. Think there is any truth to this?geocarr wrote:Notice that dino never commented on the "first appearance" question....

Weirder things have happened. Happens with Vertigo books for uber popular characters. Funny, I was thinking of looking this up today.jmatt wrote:I seriously doubt collectors will see it that way.zlovemojo wrote:So now I'm hearing rumblings that the "Valiant Next 2015 Preview" is the actual first appearance of Divinity due to its publication date. The supply + demand + market value + percentage of collectors financially/emotionally invested in a book determines this.
It is for these reasons that Hulk #180 is NOT more valuable than Hulk #181 (even though 180 showed Wolverine first); while Eternal Warrior #4 IS more valuable than Rai #0 (even though Bloodshot only makes a small cameo on the last page).
The market says that Divinity #1 IS the book.
Technically, the 2015 preview is likely the "real" first appearance, but Divinity #1 has the supply + demand + market value + percentage of collectors financially/emotionally invested.

I agree with you...for the moment but the tides change. Considering the relative scarcity of the the preview book and the fact it was published in December 2015, I'm thinking it still could be worth picking up at a low price.DirtbagSailor wrote:No.zlovemojo wrote:So now I'm hearing rumblings that the "Valiant Next 2015 Preview" is the actual first appearance of Divinity due to its publication date. Don't know where mine is to look at, but a Preview is a preview of what is to come.
If was an apperance in a story, out side of a advanced look at abook being published latter, yes.
As for it becoming valuable ??? Don't know yet. It ha only been a few months. To early to tell. Things may change. It will not change for hulk 180. I could change for bloodshot even, RAI 0 is a kick butt book .
THa market will tell, but still early . Still think the key book on Bloodshot is Rai 0, regardless of the market,

If Spider-man was advertised on the back of a cereal box before AF 15, would that be his true first appearance?
Ads, promos and teasers are not first appearances. And I say this as a guy that has like 20 copies of that preview.

If said cereal box had 3+ pages of the character in question published 2 months prior to AF 15 then yes, by most accounts I feel it would be the first true appearance. Regardless it's not up to you or I to definitely decide.jmatt wrote:If Spider-man was advertised on the back of a cereal box before AF 15, would that be his true first appearance?

That is true. I see one up on Ebay for $2.49.zlovemojo wrote: Regardless it's not up to you or I to definitely decide.
To me, any kind of true first appearance has to happen in an issue that is a full comic with a dedicated story, not an ad or teaser or preview. But that's just me. Different strokes and all that.
