:hm: I interpreted Gil-ahd as gill-add. Apparently I have bigger issues to deal with than this survey.

It's Gil-Add in my head.
The one that bugged me the most was Geoff. It was relieved to see Clay McHenry take over as geomancer so I wouldn't have to wonder how Geoff is supposed to sound.

That would've been my vote as well. And exactly how I would've spelled it phonetically.

Ahd is more like 'odd'; Add sounds more like 'fad'. I should have put in another option, I guess.

How can it be Gil-Id?!? :?

I assume we all pronounce it with 'G' as in 'Golf' not 'G' as in 'Geoff'? :P

Sorry to dig this thread back up, but was searching around for the pronunciation after listening to the Valiant Effort podcast and being thrown off by them pronouncing it as "Jill odd"

The YouTube link is how I've always thought of it, with the G as in Golf (not a "J" sound).

I'd normally be ticked off at such a blatant necro-bump, but screw it, I kinda wanna jump in too.

The voice in my head kinda likes to roll with Gil-ad, but I'm pretty sure the correct pronunciation is Gil-ahd. Incidentally, the voice likes to say Eye-var, but I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be Ih-var.

Now here's a question: which syllable do you stress for all three brothers? The first, or the second?

Well, out of curiosity I went looking around the internet. Gilad is a real name in use by people today. I had no luck with dictionary.com or other sites that provide pronunciation but Youtube proved a gold mine. After listening to several people with the name pronounce it, Gill-Add is correct.

I've always thought of Aram as "air ram" with the stress on the first syllable. Similarly, stressing the first syllable in Ivar (although I wasn't sure if it was eye-var; ee-var (long e); or ih-var (short i).

With Gilad, I've varied between "Gill-add" and "Gill-odd" with the stress usually on the second syllable. But, I've never used a J sound with the name.

Again, apologies for the necro-bump.

I have been thinking about this since Joe (Knob Row) graciously said I could do the Shooter interview on June 9. I will slide Jim two index cards and ask him to pronounce the names on them.

Gilad (I say Gil-AHD)

Ivar (I say ee-VAHR)

Then, once for all, we will finally know the answer. Perhaps I should ask him to write them out phonetically as he sees fit on the card. Hmm, maybe I could do it on an appropriate comic book, ask him to sign and auction off them for CF...

I will entertain wagers for those of you who feel strongly about some other pronunciation. :P

Yeah, I roll with the same stresses, Zhuge. And I've gone back and forth on whether to go with Ee-var or Ih-var.

To not leave the other brother out, I usually go with Ah-Rahm, but all the kids today are most likely gonna go with Ay-Ram. Stupid League of Legends.

Just a minor quibble, but Ivar may not have been around/planned during Jim's tenure.

Ee rock or Eye rack, Ee vonn or Eye Vinn, Ee Ron or Eye ran

I suppose it'd be interesting to know what pronunciation is in the writer'so head, but to me both pronunciations are fine. Like a writer who likes his readers to use their own imagination
