This is pretty much my position.Man Of The Atom wrote:I could definately be wrong, but I don't think VEI would make you the guy who gives Bob complete and total control over this book.
If this got cleared by Dino I would be in.

I have Bob Hall's plot to Shadowman #44. It's 8 pages but can easily be turned into 10 or 12. It's written VALIANT-style- full plot. I don't know Dino so can someone who knows him ask? Everything I want to do is in this thread.

Seems simple enough. Contact the very open and easy-to-reach Dino, get a yes/no/maybe and then move forward from there.
If it did go forward, then yes I'm on board financially as well.
Then, later this Fall...

I'm trying to figure out what this is - if it was actual finished comic pages, I'd be for it. But sketch cards? I don't know. It just doesn't seem that would be as epic as it needs to be...
Also, black and white would turn me away.

I sent a blind letter to Dino as well as PMs to some of you who expressed interest. I really hope he says yes- I really want this to become a reality! So bump away folks- chime in again on this project!

A blind letter is a personal letter to a stranger. I PMmed him, is that the box he checks?
It looks like we might have a short story with illustrations. There are some realities that just aren't going to happen. Besides, we get more story.
I asked permission to print a Bob Hall short story with illos as a softbound, non-comic book-sized format. Limited print etc... all monies will be made 100% accountable by me and audited by someone else for transparency.
In that case, Bob would be doing panels or key pieces- a lot of little art instead of 11 X 17 art. Better-than-sketchagraph art and story.

Re: VH1 Shadowman Idea/Project
I'm anxious to hear what Dino says. I'm all in if he approves. But, honestly, I hope they have plans to turn Bob Hall loose on a full comic book production of this story. Based on Bob's willingness to participate in this project, however, that doesn't look to be the case.
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Try these guys: https://www.nationsprint.com/clients/ra ... ag=bookletKnob Row wrote:Printing- my quote is $3.17 per for color cover and B&W inside, 24 pages- the 12 page story plus an interview with Bob Hall and stuff from you guys. $3.17 is $3.50 with shipping.
24 pages in FULL COLOUR for $3 per copy. And you can print in any increment you want over 25 copies. I've used them before and they are great.
And as I said, I'd colour and letter 10 pages of Bob Hall art for essentially nothing.

Re: VH1 Shadowman Idea/Project
Just to be clear in this little mental daydream... you art contributors are buying commissioned art from him. I had him confused- he thought he was going to keep all the art. You art guys want to divvy up the art when it's done, right? Because otherwise there's the page fee to which I told him Sal Velluto charges $345.00 is something that suddenly becomes out of our price ranges, I think. Right? We want pieces of varying sizes?? Some sketchagraphs, some 5 X 7s, a couple 11 X 17... is that what you guys all think is the best course- a "collective commission"? I use Sal as a yardstick because he posts all his price rates up front.
Opinions?

We're just better off waiting to get an answer from Dino first, then we can torture ourselves about the details.

Re: VH1 Shadowman Idea/Project
Great idea, but I echo those who would rather see something official from Valiant, and also would vastly prefer full, colored pages. Valiant has already shown they will go back and publish new material with previous iterations of their characters, with the upcoming Quantum & Woody mini-series. I'd imagine that Shadowman #44 has MUCH less commercial appeal than the Quantum & Woody project, however, so why doesn't someone float this idea to offset costs: an *official* VEI produced Shadowman #44 from Bob Hall, funded at least partially by fans via an IndieGoGo or similar crowd-funding campaign.
EDIT: That's what I get for posting before reading the whole thread. However, I have no doubt that the idea was shot down because you were proposing self-publishing a comic featuring IP that they own. There is no way they are going to let that happen. I think this should be presented as a fan petition with funding behind it. I believe Top Cow has done some crowd-funded stuff? I think that's a reasonable avenue that allows VEI to maintain editorial control of their IP, shifts some of the financial burden to fans, and rightly so because they would be producing a fan-demanded project.

Re: VH1 Shadowman Idea/Project
Yeah, I just saw this thread. Was never gonna happen outside of VEI.
The real question is.. Does Bob WANT Shadowman to die in issue 44?
Because I've said before.. continuing some classic Valiant in a special VEI series would be awesome and Shadowman and Dr. Mirage are likely the absolute easiest to just suddenly pick up and continue where they left off, like Quantum and Woody did during acclaim and hopefully again with the new original based stuff they are working on.
The best way to get something like this done is get enough committed people together supporting it and then go from there. I'd rather see Bob do an entire arc continuing Shadowman and have it published as a limited edition trade/HC.
If there is a legitimate demand pounding at the door with a great idea that makes business sense to bring back something VH1, I'm sure Dinesh would be behind doing it.
This idea of getting it financed by having people pay for the art and story up front and get the originals is probably pretty solid. It's just the other things that need to fall in line. This is also something that would likely take at least 1 1/2 to 2 years to make happen also. Unless people with deep pockets have $20-50,000 to throw at it right away.

Re: VH1 Shadowman Idea/Project
I'm interested in this project.
Also something I proposed to the VEI overlords, was to have an 8 page backup story to let Bob finish his story from 1996-1999 until "Shadowman's" death, (not necessarily the death of Jack Boniface)
If anything ever happens, I'll keep checking this thread and see if anything pops up that VEI will get on board with.
