That was some that Mike and I talked about last week via email.mike baron wrote:I like all those guys. My problem was, I got handed Archer and Armstrong and I never did know what to do with it. I couldn't follow Barry's British whimsy, and Bob kept giving me vague pointers that were neither fish nor fowl. The series lacked direction. Part of it was the times, too. As for Valiant in general, they just weren't putting out compelling books. But who knows--it's a funny business. Other companies that put out compelling books still went under.

My prized piece would have to be my Quesada Ninjak promo piece.
At one time it was my 9.2-9.8 ultra sweet copy of Amazing Spiderman #50 that I bought. At one time I had an ultra high-grade collection of Amazing Spidey from 38-present. I sold 38-100 to finance a missionary trip to China with my church.
I then moved to NM and sold my 101-present as I was lazy and didn't feel like finding a job. In that pile were three gems. They were my 9.6-9.8 121, 122, and 129. Yes, I know you'll say, "No way were they that good." But oh contraire, they were.
When I sold them to some guy living in Albuqueruque, he was absolutely estactic on the quality of the 129. My 129 is my white whale that I wished I didn't allow to swim away.

Signed by Joe Quesada and dated 1995. Came with a print out of the script. On the blank side of each page of the script are Joe Quesada's roughs for each page as well as a travel agent number and some girls phone numbers! On the back of the last page is the hand written text from the back of the Art of Joe Quesada chase card (SP1) from the Valiant Era I card set. There is also another rough sketch of the XO #0 cover in red pen under the text. Purchased on ebay in 2004.

Accordingly enough, I've got a weird one: In 1981 I drew a picture of my younger sister screaming her head off (her natural state, I assure you) and mailed it into Crazy magazine as an entry to the Draw the Baby Hulk contest in the Teen Hulk serial. Something in that visage struck a chord because I won. They proceeded to draw me into the story (as a hapless hall monitor) and I got Marie Severin's original art for the story, a check for $1.00 for the "rights" and a bunch of correspondance from Larry Hama and Shooter. I never got the Wolverine drawn by Byrne I asked for, but got an autographed pic of Stan the man.
See, I told you it was weird.

You guys want props? I subscribe to an auction house here that has 4 auctions a year...nothing but movie props.
I'll scan the cover of one of the catalogs if I get a chance...
Some of you guys have big, big dollar items...a la Avengers #1 9.4!
I guess I'd say, my most prized part is the breadth of what I've got.
Oh, and my Turtles #1 (soon to be in a CGC holder near you!)
Also...as promised:

Both of 50.

Fantastic Four #48 VG- (Easy to get)
Warriors of Plasm Original Binder (wooohooo!)
Preacher #1 Preview Edition (I wonder just how many there are?)
Eternal Warrior #5 VcVSS (My one and only and boy I love it!!!)
2 X-Men 50's Gold NM-MN (well, it looks sweet only 4500 made)
My Spiderman #1 Platinum (x-gf got it for $300 back in '90 for my bday present, its only lost about $180 in value since Ive had it).
My Robin II Binder (I fell for that hype)
My 2 VF ASM #136's (whats that, like $20 each???. Im so cheap!!!)
My VF Tomb of Dracula #12 (I know, whoptee 2nd Blade, I Cant Afford the 1st!!!)
Im sure there are a few more but I cannot remember. Yep, a low collection for a low rent guy.

hey, it's all about what it means to YOU dude...i went with my nexus #3...which isn't worth nearly as much as my hulk #181...but i've seen so many hulk #181's it's not funny...i've only seen 1 nexus #3 with the record still in it...and the record isn't scratched and still plays.
the value is what it's worth to me...not what it's worth to everyone else.

Right now, it would be:
Marvel Spotlight #5 NM- 9.2
Iron Man #55 NM 9.4 or better
DD #168 NM 9.4 or better
BUT how long they remain in my hands is the big question - once you start selling it is hard to keep anything for more than a couple of months.
The coolest comic I have ever owned is a copy of Contact Comics #12 - classic L.B. Cole sci-fi cover that is super scarce. It was a gorgeous copy with a VF/NM front cover, but a 4 inch piece had been torn off the top left corner on the back cover and reattached with tape. At the time the guide price for a NM copy was in the high $400s, but that copy (which must have been one of the first ever offered on eBay) fetched close to $600. It hurt to sell it, but at least the price was right at the time!
Cheers,
Skiw
