First off, I *loved* this issue. So amazing! I love Pak's vision of the future, it is just so cool! I can't wait to read issue #6.
Having said that, I can't help but feel like this book may have been better served by going the Thor: God of Thunder route and inter-spliced different timelines into one issue.

I liked this issue. Art was night and day better. Also a better start to the arc than the first issue
Pull List: I only buy TPB's, HC's and Hellboy comics

Re: Eternal Warrior #5 Discussion
@Bugsy- So there are a few variations on the theme then? I knew they read slightly different but just chalked that up to creative interpretation.
If they ever did acquire Samson though his story could be woven into the 4001A.D. we've seen so far.
The globe could just be scarred in places. I think things could still be crafted to have the sentient cities in space AND versions of Magnus' North Am. I'm clearly thinking a few years down the road what with DE doing some Gold Key stuff.
VEI still has a number of popular and manageable IP's to explore in the intervening years though.
As for this arc, I'm curious as to what we will find once we get into the cities, or city. The one we see just runs right up on the forest and it's exterior doesn't look all that futuristic....so what is it like inside??

I freaking loved this issue. Wasn't expecting that vision of 4001, but it's cool to see old man Gilad is still a badass. This just became one of my favorite comics as of this issue; it reminds of the way I used to feel when I read really great Valiant stories back in the day.

Did you read the first four issues?Captain Craig wrote:He is credited with bringing down the 'gods' of old and some see the beast as a sign the 'gods' have returned. My question would be, when these people say 'gods' do they mean Psiots? Nanites? Darque? Or are these gods something yet to be introduced into VEI.

Man, VEI is putting out some great stuff!
This book was awesome and fills in a hole that had existed in the universe.

Yeah I did but the events there don't line up with the villagers under Gilad remotely talking about earth goddess blown up at the tree. Plus, don't events in A&A reveal her not likely dead anyway?jmatt wrote:Did you read the first four issues?Captain Craig wrote:He is credited with bringing down the 'gods' of old and some see the beast as a sign the 'gods' have returned. I firmly believe villagers in 4001 A.D. are NOT talking about events that happened several millennia ago, but rather something a few generations closer to themselves.

Greg Pak has always either struck out (World War Hulks, Silver Surfer, Xtreme X-men) or hit home runs (Red Skull, Planet Hulk, Magneto) and never in-between. I think this is going to be another one he puts out of the park. I'm really interested in what I've seen so far.
And the art...? Good lord, what a beautifully drawn comic book! I'm heading out later this weekend to pick up his Batgirl issue. Amazing work!!

Re: Eternal Warrior #5 Discussion
I think they are referring to the Gods of the respective Houses. I have trouble believing we just read a 4 part arc with him yammering on about how the House Gods have screwed up the world and how he wants to kill the Earth God -- and yet in the next issue he's called Godkiller and it is not a reference to that.Captain Craig wrote:I firmly believe villagers in 4001 A.D. are NOT talking about events that happened several millennia ago, but rather something a few generations closer to themselves.

I actually think it was another editing error. He's actually not fond of dogs at all in 4001.jmatt wrote:I think they are referring to the Gods of the respective Houses. That would make sense. Gilad always struck me as more of a "cat person" to be honest.lorddunlow wrote: I actually think it was another editing error. He's actually not fond of dogs at all in 4001.

It is not a cleaner Trevor Hairsine that I am seeing in Robert Gill's art. What I am seeing is John Romita Jr., specifically his 1980s style (before his human anatomy became blocky) with a mix of Gene Ha.

I want more of this art. It's far superior to the previous four issues. Looking forward to more.

IMO the best thing about this 4000AD is that it opens the doors wide open for a 3000AD timeline if you will where there is a ton of tech like we are used to [with the old 4000 timeline]
Lots and lots of story open doors for some great story telling. I love where this is headed

I think originally Diego Bernard was supposed to pencil this issue and arc... I was really surprised when I saw a different artist.iwantvaliantcomics wrote:I want more of this art. It's far superior to the previous four issues. Looking forward to more.
I'm not familiar with Robert Gill's work previous but I was very impressed. I'm wondering if this was a fill in issue or whether he will be doing the full arc? I hope for consistency sake - its the full arc.

I will say i actually prefer Hairsine's more stylistic approach, but i think Gill is VERY good, and i am very happy he is drawing this arc instead of Diego Bernard (who isn't bad BTW, i just really dig Gill's art).
I would love to see Hairsine and Gill share art duties on this book.

Yeah, I like Bernard too .. but I think Gill has a nice gritty edge to his art that fits well with what Pak is trying to create in this story.
I hope he is an artist VEI can lock up exclusively

Ditto. The milespirey future is in 3000 AD and post-apocalyptic in 4000 AD.VEI Reborn wrote:IMO the best thing about this 4000AD is that it opens the doors wide open for a 3000AD timeline if you will where there is a ton of tech like we are used to [with the old 4000 timeline]

I enjoyed this issue much more than the first arc. I look forward to seeing more of 4001 and how or when Rai will be introduced. I also like the art much better in this issue.

Re: Eternal Warrior #5 Discussion
Let the adventure begin.
Just a really uncomplicated start to what may well be a very interesting arc.
I really enjoyed this issue and did not want it to end, I kind of got the same feel about the mention of God Killer being somehow connected to the houses, to which I'm sure will end up being a lot more complicated than I would expect, but I know I am going to enjoy this ride.
I have a feeling Gilad being known as an Emperor has a lot to do with the cause and effect of the Apocalypse.
I wonder which of Gilad's children is Caroline's mother or father, but that would also insinuate that that parent was around at least within the last decade, very interesting.
This arc looks to be very exciting, I want the next issue now please.

I liked the issue, but it was over so quick. The concepts are interesting, and hopefully we'll learn what brought about the downfall. The creatures are weird, are they cyborg? Part living tissue part robot, or all robot? Where's Xaran? Etc. how'd he become "emperor"?

Great issues a 7/5 for sure. My question is well The Eternal Warrior be a 4001 title now or is this just used to introduce it?

Re: Eternal Warrior #5 Discussion
I just read this finally. Being new to this I have a huge question, lol. In the first arc Gilad didnt change appearance much from when his kids were very young to the point he met back up with his daughter. So why is he soo much older looking in this issue now in 4001. I understand 2000 years went by, but if he is the Eternal Warrior, why is he an old man now??
