I had no idea Cyke killed Professor X, and I am neither shocked nor surprised by this. I guess the fact I don't feel anything at all should shock me... (I am the guy with the X-logo tattooed permanently on his shoulder, remember.)

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

I am not a fan of time travel either, in comics. However, I think after AvX a lot of people had the "what if the "old" scott could see what he became? what would he think?" thought in their mind, and this book explores that. The "period in the past" they get plucked from is right about x-Men #8 (yes, the original X-men #8), so this group is really green yet and hasn't been exposed to much of anything as far as "real threats" go. It's a very interesting story so far, imo.

all I've been able to muster is meh...

and my collection of uncanny from 94 to roughly 315 is one of my favorite runs out of anything that I have...some great stories in there...

this holds no interest to me at all...
Why waste time learning, when ignorance is instantaneous?

As far as them being green, I love how Mystique courted young Cyke in Issue #7, and from the reader's perspective you're thinking "No Scott! Stay away from that crafty *SQUEE*!" But he has absolutely no idea who she is, who Apocalypse is, or any of that information that might lead him to think, "Gee, maybe this mysterious shape-changing lady is manipulating me?"

Basically everything from the Claremont/Byrne run and after that is completely unknown to him and the rest of the original five. In a lot of ways, that makes these original X-Men really vulnerable in a way that they haven't been for quite some time.

I am not enjoying Uncanny X-Men as much as this title though. The new mutants seem pretty cool (I'm a big fan of Tempest and Goldball, so far), but I'm pretty sure what this first arc is leading up to is the big *yawn* reveal that Magneto is going to be a bad guy again and these new mutants are basically going to become the Brotherhood of Evil Redux.

I skimmed through the 1st issue and thought that twist was really poor so left it be. Has it improved (or is there more to it) from there?
The twist is explained in issue #3. The twist is so good that those who criticized the ending of issue #1 are now saying that the true Magneto is back. :)

Nah, I don't think he will be really bad again like before but he would instead challenge for the leadership of mutantdom again.

Another thing that Uncanny X-Men has going for me personally is that I really understand Cyclops' side of the argument.

One thing I will give Uncanny X-Men: I find it really, really creepy that the new "school for gifted mutants" is located in the old Weapon X facility. To me, that's really unnerving.
