Cost aside, there's an overwhelming feeling that's starting to burden me, like I can't even keep up with the covers. That is, however, a positive turn for the pricing of variants, down the road retailers won't know which covers are rarer than others.greg wrote:That's the point that I agree with... being a completist in 1993 was impossible. IMPOSSIBLE. You simply couldn't find some books.dave wrote:I think we all became completists after the crash of Valiant. It makes it hard to take now; but imagine having all the variants in say 1993...woah.
Being a completist in 2012 is possible... not cheap, but possible. EVERY book is available on Ebay.
No one was expected to be a completist in 1993, so why would anyone be expected to be a completist in 2012?
I agree with everyone so far who has said that we should collect the ones we like.
I don't have the Adams variant. No sweat. Someday I'll get it for $25... and I'm prepared to wait.

Agreed. I picked up a X-O #1 2nd printing yesterday for cover price. I felt like it was overlooked by customers. And I can't keep up with the photos either. I also don't have the same personal connection to each cover like I did in the original run. Remember what it was like to see a certain cover and think, "I remember that issue. Such and such happened". You would recall the exact story from the cover alone. So many covers now, I don't feel they're quite as iconic.GGSAE wrote:Cost aside, there's an overwhelming feeling that's starting to burden me, like I can't even keep up with the covers. Re: Number of variants per month
I am still on the variant train - but feel exhausted.
And then the Bloodshot 3 variant comes along. And I am right back on it.
I keep looking at the numbers, and thinking that the later variants may get more and more popular. Some of them may be harder to come by than the 1:50 variants...

Hey, look! I have a podcast!
And a Website!

If I win an argument, it doesn't mean I'm right. It means I'm a better arguer.
In addition, I'm right.

You're not far off ... A good friend of mine owned a shop in the Keys and I used to work in there one day a week for my comics. And my step-brother also owned a shop in Clearwater. Between them I was able to get pretty much everything, although I think I gave up around when they started doing $25 vvss books.400yrs wrote:depluto wrote:I had 'em all in 1993.
Naughty favors for a baseball card shop / comic store owner?

*SQUEE* me, I'll have to ask my step-bro ... I can't remember. It was one of those strip-mall deals.400yrs wrote:What was the shop in Clearwater?depluto wrote:You're not far off ... I lived in the Keys for two years (1992-94). Two years is about right for living down there. I'm still friends with the guy who owned the shop; he brought his family to visit us last month.
