I can see me hanging on for the collected editions - I guess they may all get HC treatment with matching trade dress which could look nice on a book shelf.
VEI - I look forward to you one day publishing MORE than 9-10 books per month

Re: DC Announces Before Watchmen
It's funny, I always thought art pages were bigger than that. I guess it's a good price for people who are really into Watchmen, but $100 (which is what it is around here) seems a bit high for that. Maybe $50.The Spider wrote:Not just recoloring. The book is the size of the original comics art pages, is high-end, and also has Moore's plot outline and character outline, and I think a script sample. Can't remember what else, though.

When Borders was closing down at the end of last summer, I saw one going for 35 dollars. Oh, if only I'd had more money.
Re: DC Announces Before Watchmen
Watched the movie once more, just for the heck of it. Man, it was so much better than the book! IMO

The Director's cut or the Complete edition? I never saw the complete edition, though I did see the extras disc with the "Under the Hood" and Pirate Ship story.steverino wrote:Watched the movie once more, just for the heck of it. Man, it was so much better than the book! IMO

How can there be a preWatchmen Dr Manhatten? Strange.
I'll not be buying the new stuff as it comes out, but I'll read it eventually I'm sure.

What did he do between becoming Dr. Manhattan and the Vietnam war?dave wrote:How can there be a preWatchmen Dr Manhatten? Strange.
What did he do after Vietnam and before Watchmen?
Isn't that a couple of decades of being a god?

I agree that he's a freak, and for whatever reason choses to look like a homeless person, but I have to agree that it is rather pathetic that DC is going to simply rehash old ideas instead of trying to develop something new, creative and exciting.
Watchmen was cool for what it was, and I doubt that Before Watchmen will add anything to it.

I ask, because if the objection is the use of the characters, then the same applies to pretty much any stable of characters in continuing publication.
Since Watchman told a very specific story, if these books tell their own stories that intersect with that story, then it isn't exactly a rehash either, is it?
What is the difference in this and say, for arguments sake, 20+ years ago Voyager Communications publishing stories with some old characters from 20-30 years earlier?
Now that is not me saying Before Watchmen will be brilliant or anything, rather that the arguments against this project seem a little flawed.

Re: DC Announces Before Watchmen
Mainstream comics are as original as Hollywood - rehash - remake - make a sequel - why bother coming up with something original?

So we're a couple books into this and I've enjoyed it. Silk Spectre #1 was really good.

Re: DC Announces Before Watchmen
My comic shop ran a deal on this. If you pre-paid for all the issues you got them for $99 and got entered in a drawing for an Absolute Watchmen book. I won
That automatically made this a good deal for me.
Anyway, the books themselves are about what I expected - they do not feel necessary, but are quality reads with good creative teams. So far they meet expectations with the potential to exceed them for me.
