Should New Valiant Use Replacements For Gold Key Characters?

I don't think anymore that they are needed for the new incarnation of Valiant. I wonder if they could still use Magnus' son Torque in a 4000ad timeline series. I'm pretty sure you can use a related character and just allude to or not mention by name the specific character you are trying to avoid.
Tom Clancy did it for several books after he got divorced and his wife won rights in the divorce settlement for half the profits from any book mentioning Jack Ryan, his primary character. Luckily, that character had just become President and his adventuring days were pretty much over. So he did some books with some of the spy friends of his and eventually some with that characters son Jack Ryan Jr. They just referred to the forbidden character as 'dad' or 'the President'.
So I think they could still use Torque or any other characters that were related to that main character, even Phil Seleski maybe. But I'd rather them not use Phil if he can't be Solar. Don't try to shoehorn him into the universe just to have him there.
Turok, in any form, I could live without.
