I know, I need to just Red Bull through or something! I've been putting in a lot of time at the paper, and then putting in time at the store when I finally get home, so I'm just never getting caught up.
I'm sure it'll happen someday - it can't be this busy all the time.
It's time for me to read Unity, though.

Get ready to read the same 5 pages about 15 times.sbcomics wrote:I know, I need to just Red Bull through or something! I've been putting in a lot of time at the paper, and then putting in time at the store when I finally get home, so I'm just never getting caught up.

I finally read three more issues of Hard CORPs. The Chaos effect issue and the next two.
The Chaos Effect issue was terrible. Clunky writing, no introductions into what on earth (haha) was going on...and then I found it very hard to believe that one second the Effect was all over the Earth and the next, it was all but gone.
VALIANT had always been known as a different kind of company. The fact that Sirot wanted to kill Sam was really a great idea. They should have. That would have made the story far more compelling.
The fact that one Armorine "softened up" an alien ship so that X-O could take it out proves the writer had no clue regarding the power of the Man-o-War suit, and you guys know, I am in no way one of those uber geeks that nitpicks minutiae. I am an Ubergeek that doesn't, okay? lol
X-O did not need Harada's mind powers to help him blow up Spider Alien ships.
The next two issues were better. The one had the boxer introduced. It was okay, but it didn't get us anywhere. Introduce a new character, and then get rid of him at the end. So who cares? And Heydrich wouldn't have even known about the gambler. If he didn't he would never say anything about it. At the end of the book, I was just wondering what the point was.
The next issue was pretty good. That disgruntled teen was in it. Eric Semple or some such name. Earl Simpkus? Help me out.
The art was kinda goofy, but not awful. It seemed decidedly un-VALIANT, which was okay. There were several odd ball humorous points, like Heydrich worrying about "the bean counters" reaction to his destroying a rug. Odd.
Anyway, no where near as bad as I'd feared, but just kinda out there. The helmet that Heydrich threw on reminds me of Nuro's helmet in the new Dr Solar.
That is all. (finally, you say!)

I agree. I started trying to read everything in approximately release order. This really sucked when I'd read a good book and have to read a bunch of crap to get back to that good book.sbcomics wrote:I'm thinking about giving up on "in order" after I get done with Unity and just reading the runs that interest me. Thoughts?
I'm enjoying it more reading in runs. If I find one I'm liking, I keep going. If one kind of sucks, I read it, but kind of skim it.
Definitely read in runs.

I skipped ahead and read the first year of Bloodshot:
http://blog.newsok.com/nerdage/2011/04/ ... k-reviews/
I liked it! Some of that may have been nostalgia, but it's got espionage elements, which I like, plus some of the bits I liked about Wolverine and the Punisher. I wouldn't call it earth-shaking or anything, but it was fun to break the reading-in-order gauntlet and just knock out 12 issues of the same character.

Finally got some Solar recaps written, though there's a lot more depth to these issues than what I got into.

Re: 2011: Re-reading Valiant!
The good news: I'm on pace to actually finish 2,011 comics in 2011
The bad news: I've done not nearly as well reading Valiants as I wanted to.
Part of it was not being able to find issues to finish out runs, so I didn't start on some... not sure what my other excuses were exactly.
I've actually read some Shadowman and Archer & Armstrong that I have yet to blog about, but overall I just didn't get as many Valiants read so far as I hoped to.
I've read 1,535 comics this year (or those are the ones I've read and blogged about so far), but only 47 were Valiants.

Finally some more Valiants on the blog, as I write up my take on the first 15 issues of Archer and Armstrong:

Why waste time learning, when ignorance is instantaneous?
