but we've got to remember that our childhoods (well, mine at least)
were defined by the things we heard, saw, and enjoyed.

I went to Disney 4 times when I was a kid... and not once did I see a comic book character.
The last trip, they finally had "Star (Wars) Tours" and I "met" Chewbacca.

I have no doubt that I would have been a comic book fan LONG before the early 1990s
if they had been a part of my childhood in those Disney trips. They weren't.

If you take 100 little boys and give them access to Goofy, Mickey, Donald, and Spider-man...
you'll get 90 Spider-man fans by the end of the day...
even before they can read, they know "Pie-da-man".

That's fantastic for the future. :thumb:
I agree. Good insight.
Maybe ..... but I bet that Disney's version of Spiderman is different from Stan Lee's version.
I think that access too these characters is already available to any child that wants to see either Goofy or Spiderman. I feel that the only way Disney can open any new doors for these great characters is too water them down. Disney isn't known for its creative freedom of speech.
Just my 2 cents ..... I hope I'm wrong.
I'm sure Disney will at least consider that the publishing arm of Marvel is a bit different than anything they've owned before, and decisions will be in accordance with that thought. That being said, I think it's an excellent possibility Joe Q will be out within a year or two, tops.

But I wonder if Disney really cares that much about publishing comic books. It does appear to be a dying industry, after all. Or is Disney mainly concerned with the "branding" of these characters?

The thing that has me worried about this acquisition is that Disney is only interested in big profits. In this case, it would mean securing the rights to make blockbuster movies with the characters and maybe building more theme parks with them. Comic publishing is already on the decline and I am not sure if Disney have any future plans to keep that around since the potential $$ is no longer there. :|

Excellent! I can't wait until Lord Pumpkin shows up at the Haunted Mansion with Jack Skellington this Halloween.

Disney's business is basically the same as Marvel's at this point, this is one company that owns, uses, and licenses intellectual property buying another. It's just a bigger deal than when they bought "Winnie the Pooh" or "Power Rangers".

You'll probably see a "Marvel" theme park in Orlando at some point, although they probably have to respect the current licensing in place with Universal.

Disney now owns the "Ultraverse" now too.

But it did make me realize...when Time-Warner acquired DC, Quesada and Palmiotti were quick to dismiss "AOL Comics." I wonder if those words/sentiments will come back to haunt Q-bert. :hm:
I was reading an article today that mentioned that DC comics was purchased by Time Warner in the late 60s.

Boom Studios has some sort of agreement to publish Disney comic books. I'm sure that will be out the window one way or another now.
Could Marvel come out with a Donald Duck #1?

My bad. It came after AOL acquired Time-Warner, not after T-W got DC. Thanks, Chiclo.
