As long it doesn't get ridiculous like DC and Marvel are getting about it, I wouldn't mind a variant cover every now and then.cshepard81 wrote:DHP is an anthology, right? I've never read the title before, but if one or more of the Gold Key characters is the focus, I'll probably buy 1-2 copies for myself and maybe a few more copies to give away to family/friends.
I hope there aren't any variant covers, period.

I suppose a 50:50 cover ratio isn't as bad as an incentive cover with a higher cover price, but I've kind of had my fill of cover gimmicks over the years. I really want these new stories with the Gold Key characters to be more about great stories and less about different covers.Daniel Jackson wrote:As long it doesn't get ridiculous like DC and Marvel are getting about it, I wouldn't mind a variant cover every now and then.cshepard81 wrote:DHP is an anthology, right? They have tended to do 50:50 covers for licensed products like Star Wars & Buffy etc with art or photo covers, but that aside i like the simplicity of how they operate.Brother J wrote:I like the fact that Dark Horse doesn't seem to go too heavy into the variant cover thing too much (at least it seemed that way when I was buying some of the Star Wars books). One copy is plenty for me.
Considering the current size of the import community this isnt a bad time to start something new, as things can only get better surely?
With some simple support and some high quality on this revamp all will be cool

Some people still like to have complete runs without having to mortgage the house. No, anything over 1:25 will be too cost prohibitive for me. I hate being loyal to a title and the publisher pull a stunt like that. On the other hand more obtainable incentive variants can be fun to collect.robb77 wrote:i dont like these 50:50 cover variants make it a proper variant like 1:100 for specific issues i.e 1st appearances etc
I’m not too crazy about 50:50 variants either because it’s just a gimmick to sell more copies to the average reader. Ones that create a singular image aggravate me even more. I know the incentive variants are made available to bump a LCS’s order up. However, in many cases it may only be a handful of issues extra for promoting increased readership—not individual hoarding.

I feel the same way. If they start making the numbers too limited, I'm not going to bother with them, because it will all about the $$$. I just want something interesting, perhaps a cool guest artist or I wouldn't mind seeing Jim do a coupon collecting thing like he did with Mags and Harby (except this time just turn in a specific serial number, not cut up a book).sanman wrote:Some people still like to have complete runs without having to mortgage the house. I believe it was mentioned in the SD panel videoredskindavyd wrote:I thought that Dark Horse Presents was just an online comic now (on their myspace) that was eventually collected in trades later on?

...and then also mentioned by Shooter in the recent "20 Questions" that Dark Horse Presents was going to be revived as an ongoing title with the Gold Key heroes making their first appearances there.
haha 1:100 is harsh maybe a little less rareDaniel Jackson wrote:I feel the same way. The Dark Horse November solicits are up but there's no mention of DHP:

Maybe there'll be something in the December/January/Feb. previews for the DHP relaunch.

Those of you who indicated you're only buying 1 copy please report back after you see that shiny first issue ot the new Dark Horse Presents written by Jim Shooter, premiering the new Solar, Magnus, Turok and possibly other characters (if this is indeed how it goes down) and let us know if you resisted buying one or more extra copies. You shall be greater than I if you so resist the temptation of picking up at least one extra copy of such a book.

One of SOLAR, if it gets good reviews. I never was a fan of the GK3 and they, overall, were some of my least favorite VALIANT/Acclaim titles. Non-VALIANT versions hold minimal interest for me.
Having said that, ALPHA & OMEGA was one of my favorite comic tales, ever, and I hope Shooter can recapture the magic [if he does, I'll be along for the duration], but I'll wait for Rai & Bloodshot (and others) to return instead of getting invested in a different "new" universe.
