WHAT?!?!Daniel Jackson wrote:Same here, it just looked like another dumbed down Marvel title when it hit the shelves.depluto wrote: When Marvel published Plasmer, I never thought for a minute it had something to do with Plasm. So I didn't buy it.
How can you say that?

Clearly, WoP was meant to make me confused and buy it instead of Plasm.

My first time to ever see the cover of an issue of Plasmer. The similarity to WOP is uncanny. I can hardly tell a difference. No wonder Marvel felt it necessary to take legal action to protect not only its intellectual property but their fans as well*.

Thanks for summarizing the issue so well. I think the chart really shows the potential output from the two companies.
Having to rename Gilad's book doesn't bother me as much as more casual fans being mislead to books they aren't really after. This is what I see as the biggest problem in this situation. If VIP does publish their books, then anyone who doesn't know the situation will see their books, realize it isn't what they are after and tell their friends "The new VALIANT sucks" which will then dissuade others from trying out VEI titles.

Hopefully, we can educate a lot of them as to the real Valiant.rictor wrote:Thanks for summarizing the issue so well. I think the chart really shows the potential output from the two companies.

Magnus, Solar, and Turok are owned by Randam House publishing any new material linenced by VEI from Random House.Fatal Rose wrote:Also I was wondering if Valiant was brought back what is the possibility of us seeing characters from dell/goldkey (magnus, solar, turok)?
Reprinting the old Valiant series I don't know I would assume that they might be able to since Solar guest stars in Harbinger: The Begining hardcover.

Yeah, they have the right to reprint all of the older stuff Valiant put out including the Gold Key characters.Cyberstrike wrote:Magnus, Solar, and Turok are owned by Randam House publishing any new material linenced by VEI from Random House.Fatal Rose wrote:Also I was wondering if Valiant was brought back what is the possibility of us seeing characters from dell/goldkey (magnus, solar, turok)?

Thanks Greg, that helps explain a lot. One question though. When VEI reprints a back issue(s) like the new Harby HC, what goes through the process of making it?

Why not? It's going to be great!Asharad wrote:![]()
I'm a newbie here, yet I've always been a Valiant fan. I saw the ad for the new Harbinger book, and was very excited. Now I'm depressed. This money grab by VIP is sick. They have no intention of offering a product to the public. The greedy mudsuckers expect VEI buy the trademarks from VIP.
Sigh. Valiant died when Acclaim took over. I shouldn't have gotten so excited over the new harbinger book.

Well, there were some pics posted here, but it seems they have disappeared. The discussion is still a worthy read, though.mramsterdam wrote:Where could i find the horror ashcan and see what everyone is talking about?

That eBayer still has still has one for sale.
What an *SQUEE*... look at a question one person wrote, and his response.

Yeah, great attitude for a seller to have. Seems a perfect selling partner for vip.slym2none wrote:That eBayer still has still has one for sale.

Thanks for this clear recapitulation, Greg. Coming back to the Valiant Universe is really... complicate!
I remember incredible interview readings at the time, with Shooter, BWS, even Layton later. It seems that despite a great universe, the company's life - creatively and legally - has always been rather complex!
I would have been interested in seeing the designs one the ashcan, but only out of cruriosity. Never mind!
