if they don't, *SQUEE* them. you can't be a lazy piece of *SQUEE* if you run a shop, plain and simple. if you are, *SQUEE* off. you don't deserve anyone's business. it angers me to no end hearing stories of shop owners who refuse to do special orders and whatnot. IT'S NOT THAT HARD!jedimarley wrote:daydreamscomics wrote:I WILL BE FILLING ALL ORDERS FOR THE BOOK!!!
it looks like it'll take an additional week or so, but hey, we've waited about 10 years, what's a few extra days?![]()
I just hope the rest of the "LCS's" across the nation feel the same as you.

I think the problem is that some have been bitten by people who special order stuff and then don't ever come back to pay for it. My LCS has a bunch of statues and comics that just sit around collecting dust because of that very reason.daydreamscomics wrote:if they don't, *SQUEE* them. you can't be a lazy piece of *SQUEE* if you run a shop, plain and simple. if you are, *SQUEE* off. you don't deserve anyone's business. it angers me to no end hearing stories of shop owners who refuse to do special orders and whatnot. then set a policy for special ordering statues or higher priced items. i presonally wouldn't special order a statue for someone without a deposit, just because we have no demand for them at our store.Daniel Jackson wrote:I think the problem is that some have been bitten by people who special order stuff and then don't ever come back to pay for it. if someone special orders a comic or a trade and doesn't come back in, it's really not that big of a deal. odds are someone else will come along and pick it up. it happens at our store, and we expect it'll happen from time to time.
if you carry something, say fables trades, and someone needs one, why would you hesitate to reorder one for someone? or if someone came in wanting the next volume of new avengers...why would you refuse to take their name and number and hold one when it comes in? you're gonna sell it at some point regardless...

I hear what you're saying, but at the same time I really can't blame some of the owners for being hesitant on some stuff. Most of the LCS's around here are very small and they already have a lot of books that never sell anyway. I have not noticed a lot of customers looking through the back issue for stuff like they used to and what they do get is usually from their pull list. So far I have talked my local guy into ordering Zoom Suit and now the Harby HC. Most of those copies of ZS are still sitting on the shelf (in plain view when you walk into the store too). Now I have to go back and talk to him about the Harby book.... I'm not looking forward to this.daydreamscomics wrote:then set a policy for special ordering statues or higher priced items. i presonally wouldn't special order a statue for someone without a deposit, just because we have no demand for them at our store.Daniel Jackson wrote:I think the problem is that some have been bitten by people who special order stuff and then don't ever come back to pay for it. in the instance of zoom suit, being a mostly unknown small press book, it's kinda their own fault for ordering too many in my book.Daniel Jackson wrote:I hear what you're saying, but at the same time I really can't blame some of the owners for being hesitant on some stuff. i've found the main reason no one is looking through back issues is because people are making the switch to trades. given this, retailers shouldn't be ordering extra copies of books to keep as back issues. anyone doing that is making a bad business decision. you should order to what you sell, which if you keep inventory every week (which i'm guessing a lot of shops don't) you come out pretty close saleswise month after month. it's sad to see pictures of store set ups where they have 50 copies of tons of new books just sitting on their shelves.
shops have the ability to reign in their inventory #'s and what they can sell on a continuint bases, which goes back to developing good relations and customer service with their customers, but most shops find this to be too much of a challenge. they will all sit there and *SQUEE* about it, but they are the ones to blame, and yet they do nothing to change things.
it's not the 90's anymore. grow with the times. if you can't/won't, you probably won't last long...

I used to frequent about 12 different shops at the peak and now there are only about 4 with their doors still open and I'm not sure if two of them will make it another couple of years. I miss the days when comics were just about everywhere, the local drug store, grocery store and even Wal-Mart sold them for awhile.daydreamscomics wrote:it's not the 90's anymore. grow with the times. if you can't/won't, you probably won't last long...
