Here's a good profile page that describes it more (along with the other Defiant titles...):JonesyAZ wrote:Oh yeah? What is the premise of that series?vikingspawn wrote:Dark Dominion is another book worth a hit too.

It's a great run and the characters from "Dark Dominion" start to cross over during the middle of Plasm run...around Plasm #5 & #6....they're all good though.

I could never get 'into it' and I was sorely disappointed with the art.
The thing that draws me to Defiant is all the 'collectibles'. Some WAY easy to find while others, hard to find on a cosmic scale. I've been blessed to have made friends with a guy with the largest Defiant collection and I was able to glean a few nuggets here and there. This guy, every time I go up to PHX to see him, his enthusiasm pulls me right back into collecting Defiant 'stuff' again.
As far as the books, I read them through once and will not likely open them again.

I have to say, Defiant was really hit and miss. When I LOVED a book-like Dark Dominion & Warrirors of Plasm-I really loved it. Otherwise, I was either lukewarm or cold. I mainly mourn the potential with Defiant, rather than what we got. Same thing with Broadway. But, I have to say, I really, really loved Dark Dominion. Of course, sometimes the dialogue-same as with Warriors of Plasm-was a bit "cheeze whiz" for my tastes. Still, I think it had a very unique concept as a universe and it's a shame we never got to see it grow.Knightt wrote:I could never get 'into it' and I was sorely disappointed with the art.

It's a good thing, the excitement.JonesyAZ wrote:BTW, I realize that I come across with child-like excitement over re-discovering these dead universes(lol), but it's really fun for me to enjoy these books all these years later.
We all get a little excited when we get turned on to a new dead universe.

I liked Broadway much better than Defiant.
I liked WoP (but I only read about 1/2 of the story) Tried DD (a few issues), did not get it. Same for War Dancer.
I read every book (not saying much) in Broadway. I think it was very early valiant-esque.

My take has long been that Broadway could have been Shooter's "Big Thing". Maybe even bigger than Valiant. But, I loved the concepts in Dark Dominion and I think that the ORG, from WOP, while very strange, is also one of the most utterly original ideas in comic history. I always put Broadway & Defiant together, though, because it's so hard choosing one of them. Of course, nothing compares to Valiant & CGW.Elveen wrote:xodacia81 wrote:I have to say, Defiant was really hit and miss. I'll finally admit this....I was one of those people that avoided Warriors of Plasm when it was new because I HATED the idea of a card set being the 'first' issue and never felt compelled to collect it.
Now that it's a DU, I'll probably get around to getting it but I still don't feel compelled to do it anytime soon.
So for now, answering the original question....no, I don't care about Warriors of Plasm anymore.

I thought it was a 'nifty' idea back in the day... until you could get the whole thing printed in PREVIEWS a few months later. The thing is, the cards weren't as easily available as they ought to have been.Knightt wrote:I thought it was a 'nifty' idea back in the day... until you could get the whole thing printed in PREVIEWS a few months later. I agree with you there. And I just got my issue 0 tin set and 1st Edition binder on Monday. I got around to putting all the cards into the binder last night and read about the first three pages of story, as well as some of the character profiles. And I have to say that I am enjoying it a LOT more than I thought I would. The universe is RICH in Sci-Fi detail, and I can immediately get a sense that Shooter is writing a story about humanity's struggle of class, race, sexuality, and acceptance(or lack) of diversity. Plus, I really dig how the world of Plasm is set-up to be a "perfect" organism (Org) where everything works as one on the surface, but has a very ugly undertone. I wonder if this title was also meant to be his view on how he's had to deal with his own struggle of trying to be an "individual" creator starting his own unique comic vision, yet has been shunned by the "Org" of the corporate world in the process? I really feel for Mr. Shooter having learned more about his battles with the investors of his various companies in the 90's (and Defiant's battle with Marvel). It's just sad, because I wish that Jim's many unique visions and universes with Valiant/Defiant, etc. were a huge success today. Hopefully, his new Solar/Magnus/Turok books at Dark Horse will finally afford him the success he deserves!!! (I know that was a long-winded observation...but thank you for reading...lol)turborip wrote:I'll finally admit this....I was one of those people that avoided Warriors of Plasm when it was new because I HATED the idea of a card set being the 'first' issue and never felt compelled to collect it.

The zero issue focuses on the aliens. The rest of the series focuses more on humans that end up among the aliens.JonesyAZ wrote:I agree with you there. Here's a little something to keep an eye out for - there was an issue of Previews (June '93, I think) that had Plasm 0 in comic form and Deathmate Orange preview bound in with the book. There were also a sheet of totally awesome* Spawn Spogs.

Okay...I need your opinion on this. Since I just bought and assembled the standard 150 card set in a 1st Edition binder, and the only bonus cards are 2 foil cards (the exclusives with the tin and binder), is it honestly worth buying a case just to potentially get a few chase cards?
Ahhh...the temptation is almost overwhelming...lol.

AW, MAN!!! The Spawn Spogs must have made that issue go for at LEAST $500 on the secondary market! But, i'm surprised that Mr. McFarlane would market his character outside of comics? I mean, Todd only cares about making good comic books, right? *Chiclo wrote:The zero issue focuses on the aliens. So I finally read the entire zero issue of Plasm last night. I seriously enjoyed it a LOT more than I thought I would. Talk about a diamond in the rough! Plus, the Splatterball comic was a lot of fun, too!
This has been the best comic-reading summer for me in years, what with Valiant, Defiant, and also getting caught up and reading the Green Lantern run by Johns, and the Wednesday Comics run by DC. I'm one happy camper, for sure!

I had just received the Premium Edition Warriors of Plasm 0 Tin Set, and the "Audio Comic" was not included in the set? The synopsis was in there though.
Also, what was the special edition comic that you were supposed to be able to get if you mailed away the certificate within these tin sets? Anyone know?
Gracias!!!
