Looks like the general opinion is that this is a must have
.
As a follow-up, it appears that this is one of the rare examples of a book that is considered much more valuable when left in the original sealed plastic. Why? Is there a good reason for leaving it in the plastic or is it just because of the perception that the book is now "used"? I can definitely understand if that is the reason as who wouldn't prefer a minty-fresh pube-free copy over a questionable thumbed-through alternative.

do people masturbate to their copies of Solar #0? I'd like to think that my spank bank has got at least something in it that's sexier than Phil Seleski...Second_Death wrote:I can definitely understand if that is the reason as who wouldn't prefer a minty-fresh pube-free copy over a questionable thumbed-through alternative.

Or is someone sending taped up body hairs to people again...

I'm not sure why leaving it in the cheap plastic film makes it worth more. In the long run I'm sure it can't be the greatest thing to do for the book.Second_Death wrote:Looks like the general opinion is that this is a must have.

I think unopened they normally sell in the $40-50+ range. Original cover price was about $25.
Knightt if you don't mind an opened copy, I have a sharp spare. The book is NM range, the case has some shelf wear and rubbing, most noticeably along the bottom edge. The poster is also included.
Found it for cover price at a LCS, I'll pass it along (shipped) at the same price. PM if you're intested.

God, is this thread Live and Alive or what? Yeah the Solar Hardcover is fantastic. it's honestly a great example of how to do a Trade the right way. It's hardcover which looks gorgeous, it's got a fantastic slipcase, it comes with a pull out poster, which is not only a poster, but you MUST have it in order to finish the story (it's actually the world's largetst comic panel). Not only that, but for what it is, it's woefully underprinted.
If interest in the book rose even on a minor scale, then I'd say it's one of the most relevent and collectible TPB's in existence. In addition to it's implied collectibility, the story therein is truthfully the frameowork and roots for the ENTIRE Valiant Universe.
If I ever begin to hoard a particular Valiant (well more than I do now), it'd be the Solar Hardcover.

Simply the best single issue of the decade and number four on Wizard's list of the top ten best comics over the last fifteen years. Jim Shooter, Barry Windsor-Smith and Bob Layton, all at the peak of their powers, tell the story of the birth and death, and then birth again of the VALIANT universe. Originally serialized in the first ten issues of Solar Man of the Atom, the story set the tone for every science fiction and superpowered book that has come since. Shooter used real science, and even explained complex ideas, to firmly ground his epic. But, the real genius of the book is its focus on one man, Phil Seleski, and his struggle to come to terms with waking up to find he has the power of a god. Barry Windsor-Smith provides his best work since the final issue of his Conan run, while Jim Shooter only had to wait six months to top this.
