Any results on everyone chipping in $5 for a die? Is there a Magnus die yet?

As far as the die goes.. Im up in the air now. The dust jackets look somuch nicer than a bound book with a die on it. I guess you could do both if you wanted... but then the die would only be seen if and when you take the dust jacket off... which may only be once or twice in my life.. or if I wanted to actually show someone the die.

I think I'll stick to the basics on the bindings.

I have my Magnus run at Library Binding right now and expect it back anytime now. Because of that, I've made dust jackets for three of the four volumes (I still have to start working on the Acclaim one)

Here are the three I have completed so far.

Book 1 - containing Magnus 0-20 and the Rai flipbooks 1-4

Image

Book 2 - containing Magnus 21-38 and Rai and the Future Force 9-11 and 15-23

Image

Book 3 - containing Magnus 39-64, Yearbook 1, and Chaos Effect Epilogue 1 and 2

Man these look awesome. I'd love to do some of my own, but I don't exactly know my way around photoshop. Any tips for a beginner on how to get one designed?

Dust jacket tutorial

Post by Steve Topper »

Over at the Marvel Masterworks Boards, I put together a tutorial on how I designed dust jackets for my first couple of bound volumes. The example I used was Marvel's Kull the Conqueror. I stepped through the whole design process, using the simplest steps I thought of (mainly because I don't consider myself a Photoshop expert in any way, shape or form)

The link is http://marvelmasterworksfansite.yuku.com/topic/1010

If this doesn't help, feel free to ask me any questions on how I go about making these.

Steve,

They look sweet. December/January is when I plan on sending my Magnus in to get bound. I also am going to put the Rai's in there. I will definitely PM you, as I would pay you for those DJ's.

Just let me know when you want them and I'll send them to you. No need to pay me as I already have them done and it might entail just minor tweaks (for personalization) to email them out.

Someone is making a Unity Omnibus, all 18 parts in one nice softcover.

http://www.dpbanks.com/sbsblog.html

I like the combined millar and simonson covers being used on the back. I may have one bound softcover like this.

Though I really like the A & A books as well.

I am considering doing Ninjak in a 2 book set softcover, but will likely go the hardcover route due to cost.

1 hardcover vs 2 softcovers.

Neil,

That Ninjak book will be huge! You're talking about 28 regular-sized issues and I 52 page Yearbook. My map shows that to be a 1060 page book (unless you remove ads and back covers) and that doesn't include the Acclaim Ninjak.

I've got Ninjak mapped as

Book 1 - 736 pages
Ninjak 0, 00, 1-10, Yearbook 1, 11-17

Book 2 - 756 pages
Ninjak 18-26, Ninjak Vol 2 1-12

And BTW, I've just gotten back my four Magnus volumes, Doctor Tomorrow, and the Geomancer/Psi-Lords double volume. And I just sent out H.A.R.D. Corps Books 1 and 2, along with four DC volumes (Action Comics 341-360, 361-380 and Warlord 0-24, 25-50).

I'm planning on having the Warlord books back in time for Mid-Ohio Con in Oct 4-5 as Mike Grell is attneding and I want a sketch/autograph in my Warlord books!

I will most likely go with 1 book on Ninjak due to costs. Also, I have started taking off the back covers and anything that does not have art on both sides. So letters pages and pages that have ads on both sides are being taken out. I think that will shrink the page count enough so that the book wont be too big..

IanAlexavier wrote:Ok, lets see if we can get some feedback about Psi Lords.. I think I have all the issues.

Two questions:

Where would Destroyer fit best?

What about the Magnus issues? I guess these should just be kept with Magnus.?

Any other mapping considerations?

1-7, Destroyer 0, 8-10?

How does that sound?
You might as well add Valiant Vision in at the end...

Steve,
thanks
Now am planning on removing the back covers and most of the knob row profile pages and the like. For some reason even though I have them at the top I keep forgetting about 0/00 and the YB for Ninjak.

Its not too difficult to take off the back cover and pages. I lay the comic flat and use my Exacto to cut straight down the spine. Then I just pull the pages off. Same thing with double sided advert pages inside the comic. Not all have these but sometimes you can find one hiding in there.

Anyone have scans of the "starting over" series from Previews for an Acclaim bound book?
