When are you publishing more comics?
When are you publishing more comics?
John Taddeo wrote:As you guys are mentioning stuff it's jogging my memory . . .I think you mean the hard asset auction, but this is from the IP auction. I thought it was funny under the circumstances . . .maybe you had to be there, you decide . . .Vault-Keeper wrote:Great to hear from you again, John! It's a shame that your efforts cost you so much money. Hopefully you'll be able to recoup your loss through some sort of future Good Karma for your troubles.![]()
I wish I could have been at that auction! It sounds like there was alot of interesting stuff left behind.---Steve
At the acution, the groups were (Fishback, his son and a few attorneys), (Khatari Group and a few Attorneys) and finally (me and my wife Donna) . . .and she was playing tetris on her PDA.
So . . .Here I am bidding nearly a million bucks in this rich looking courtroom with all expensive looking wood trim and I hear that Tetris music in my right ear. You know that hyper tune as you really get going in the game?
Now what's really funny about these bankruptcy sales is that for some reason there is like 5 minutes to as much as an hour between bids. Don't ask my why, but everyone whispers in their group when the bidding comes back to them.
This is strange to me b/c I know walking in what I'll pay, so I'm basically already nodding my head before the other guy finishes their bid, but after I bid they all huddle up and chat. This is the second time this happened to me at these sales . . .Disney was chatting it up at the CG sale and the Classic guys were even blocking there lips while they whispered ! I don't know what the hell they're saying, but obviously it must be very valuable and secret.
Next auction I think I'm bringing a crew so I can huddle up too. If anyone's interested in chatting between bids let me know.
As Peter David would say, "But I digress . . ."
So . . .anyway . . . I have tetris in my ear while the other groups are all huddled up chating after every bid.
So I say, "babe, shut that S%$t off. The music is freaking me out. I can't pay attention I have shapes flying through my head.
She says, "Can I play minesweeper?"
Now . . . at the time, I never played minesweepr, but obviously as the name infers it involves mines, so I'm thinking explosions.
"So you're giving me a choice between bombs and Tetris music? uh . . .I'll stick with the Tetris. "

Tequila? No wonder he doesn't bother following up on Zoom Suit after the mini series.....jedimarley wrote:He's moved on and is focusing his efforts on other business opportunities.Daniel Jackson wrote:A shame he stopped posting. It is concerning though, isn't it? If those old posts are taken at face value, especially with what we have seen with the lack of comic book publishing by VEI, then I see little then or now to wholly eradicate concern. Oh well.Unblessed wrote:Gotta let it all go...slym2none wrote:You most assuredly are not.Draco wrote:After reading this am i the only one who is thinking more about the lies and deceit?Daniel Jackson wrote:A shame he stopped posting. After reading many many many posts covering this whole publishing or not publishing new product i have simply come to the conclusion that i no longer give a flying f**k.
Too much BS from people who couldnt give a rats a** about anything other than money full stop.
Lies, lies, lies and more lies, but who is telling the truth, who cares any more.
Bollox.

I could bump those types of posts from dino / xoken all day, but it got a bit depressing. You are right. After a while, you just don't give a *SQUEE* anymore after you get a feel for some of the dealings.Draco wrote:leonmallett wrote:It is concerning though, isn't it? That's a good question. Why is a good question too. I'm not saying it shouldn't be, but I'd be interested to hear what Greg has to say about it.slym2none wrote:Personally, I wish VEI didn't own these characters. At this point, they won't make the comics I want to read (if at all) so I am done with them.
Is this message board still attached to the VEI website? And if so, why?

I said it all along, as much as I hate to be a joy-kill. This company never behaved like it was interested in making new comics in any significant sense. There were never going to be any new comics. There was never going to be any Harbinger movie.
And honestly, as much as I'd be interested in seeing both of them the truth is, VEI (or any other owners) would be crazy to even attempt either of them. There is absolutely NO MARKET for bringing back Valiant as we know it, because current comics fandom has spoken (with their dollars) that comics like the ones that made Valiants what they were and what we love aren't what they're interested in.
If the Valiant properties were to be relaunched "successfully", we would all probably end up hating the final product.

Actually, John had that business before he bid on the Valiant properties.Daniel Jackson wrote:Tequila? I respectfully disagree. If all they cared about was money (well, they'd be businessmen, I guess), they could have put out product long ago. The fact that they procured Jim Shooter and apparently were trying to secure the GK rights shows that they care about more than a quick buck. That's the work of fans (if not quite fanboys right there).Draco wrote:Too much BS from people who couldnt give a rats a** about anything other than money full stop.
No one's mentioned here (unless I overlooked it--aplogies to the original poster if I did) that not only did they have Shooter but that he aparently planned to retcon everything that happened after UNITY to start again. At least, that's what his script to his new chapter in the A&A HC seems to indicate--that everything after UNITY was a dream.

A dream just like getting new books published. Maybe someday, the rights for the GK properties will fall into the right hands, and the VEI rights will fall into those same hands, and their can be another rebirth of the Valiant Universe that we all love. I just hope that when that day comes, it doesn't take as long as it took the GK properties to show up as it did before. Though, if that were the case, maybe my children could enjoy them when they are my age.

Good points made here.
Too much BS and deceit leads me to beleive it was more money motivated than anything.
Many tmes in life and business i have come across people who had money on their mind over prettymuch anything else when this much BS was involved.
If somone were to trawl more through this site and find conversations and put them all in order the amount of BS would stand out so bad id be ablt to smell it from here in the UK.
Business is business and to buy Valiant and not want to make serious $$$$$ would be crazy, but im stil sding with my original thoughts that money overides all other notions of decency here.

Love or hate Zoom Suit... Johnny T did publish some comics for people to buy and read. So, I bought a copy at my LCS back then to check it out.
I gave up on Ack-Lame, 'the sale,' the suit, those that wanted the rights, those that had the rights, and all those involved long ago. Mainly because I go in and out of phases. Coins, comics, cars, GI Joe, etc. Plays havoc on the wallet at times.
Finding out who VIP was totally explained why the hype of the sale got extinguished super fast. Lies from all sides prove it was always about money and never about creating a mythology or a universe where writers and artists could imagine something super rad and cool for fans to enjoy.
Draco and Tim are hitting the nails on their heads.
