That's why I bought a couple of extras even before this book got any heat. Just in case, you know?jmatt wrote:Two, my guess is that many people feel that this will be the 'Solar' style character for the VEI universe... and Solar was one of the VH1 pillars.

Agreed --- except that Solar was "too powerful" - so you'll need "anti-Divinity" if there's a problem with the amount of power Divinity has... and there are two other cosmonauts in Divinity #3.depluto wrote:That's why I bought a couple of extras even before this book got any heat. Exactly. What if Divinity starts to stray from the tenets of Mother Russia? Or just needs a good beat down?greg wrote:Agreed --- except that Solar was "too powerful" - so you'll need "anti-Divinity" if there's a problem with the amount of power Divinity has... and there are two other cosmonauts in Divinity #3.
We should start wagering on names for them. I'm going with Hammer and Sickle.

Re: Key Valiant Entertainment Issues
Divinity isn't directly connected to the movie news, but feeling the effects of it. The movie news broke, and the first appearance of the characters directly associated with the news popped. Additionally, some of the other first appearances of classic characters popped, to a lesser extent, in anticipation of what could be next. Following that, people were looking for new books to target. Divinity is a prime target, as it's a first appearance and a #1 issue of the title character. Hopefully some of the heat is driven by reader interest. But from some of the threads here and on the CGC boards, it's clear to me that there are at least some people that are primarily interested in it from an investment perspective. If that's what it takes to get VEI to the point where they can expand and offer some new titles, I don't have a problem with that, as long as the books remain accessible to readers and collectors.jmatt wrote:Two thoughts: One, it's Valiant's first offering with a new title character. Everything else has been a name associated with something from the nineties.agent_graves wrote:Imo, the quality of the book, it's low print run, and additional printings on #1, is what's got this book hot as fish grease, the book isn't connected to any of the movie news, it's hot on the strength of itself.
Two, my guess is that many people feel that this will be the 'Solar' style character for the VEI universe... and Solar was one of the VH1 pillars.

Oh, no doubt about it. Dead Drop even more so.kjjohanson wrote:Divinity isn't directly connected to the movie news, but feeling the effects of it.
But this is the pop culture market. Marvel invented the Merry Marvel Marching Society as a way to make kids feel like they were part of the club. And anyone who's ever read SA Marvel knows how much they touted the collectibility of next month's issue. They did it religiously.
Success is determined by sales, and as Elveen has noted on occasion, heat in the back issue market leads to interest, and interest leads to sales, and sales leads to new readers, hopefully. People clambering for Valiant comics is a good thing.
Myself, I'm not submitting to Bubble Guilt for a publisher averaging like 6500 copies on a run-of-the-mill issue. They can use all the heat they can get.

What about?
Imperium #1 - 1st Mech Major / Sunlight On Snow
Ninjak #1 - 1st Roku
There are a ton of different directions they can go with Mech Major. In Imperium 3 its mentioned he has an "interface shackle" because Harada is afraid he'll trigger a technological singularly if he has access to an open system. Wonder if this is the beginning of "Father"

Yes to both, assuming the characters survive (which applies to every character I suppose)jasont215 wrote:What about?

With variants, my regret/concern is the potential loss 30 years from now for an iconic Harbinger Wars #1 cover featuring the first appearance of future everyone's friendly neighborhood Chronos. Or maybe that's not true. Maybe the market will gravitate to a particular cover, regardless of print run, because it's cooler (for example, Zircher 1:50 for HW is objectively the coolest, right?).greg wrote:My real concern is that VEI has printed so many different covers for these books that no matter how "key" the contents become, there'll only be one variant that rules the others.

Re: Key Valiant Entertainment Issues
For any book with key events, first appearances, etc., I think there will be some covers that do better than others, especially incentives (HW #1 Zircher, for example), but there will still be demand for all covers since the total print run is rather small. I think once of the exceptions could be Ninjak #4 (Roku origin, first appearance of the Shadow Seven, appearance of Darque), where the A cover will be in more demand than the variants, just because of the art.possumgrease wrote:Yes to both, assuming the characters survive (which applies to every character I suppose)jasont215 wrote:What about?

Re: Key Valiant Entertainment Issues
I posted this in a Valiant thread over on the CGC board:
Harbinger Wars #1: First Morris Kozol
Ivar, Timewalker #1: First Neela
Ivar, Timewalker #2: First AnonLurker
Ninjak #1: First Roku, First Kannon
Ninjak #4: First Shadow Seven
Shadowman #13: First Punk Mambo
X-O #1: First Commander Trill
Additionally:I was just flipping through the 2013 FCBD book. Those that consider previews to be first appearances should probably hunt this down, because it contains the preview of the first appearance of:
• Morris Kozol (head of PRS)
• Generation Zero
• The Torment
• The Faraway
• the VEI versions of Quantum & Woody
Harbinger Wars #1: First Morris Kozol
Ivar, Timewalker #1: First Neela

Shadowman #13: First Punk Mambo

Re: Key Valiant Entertainment Issues
We need to add some Rai to this list
Rai #1 (1st VEI Rai, 1st Lula Lee, 1st Momo, 1st VEI Spylocke, 1st 4001 Silk)
Rai #7 (1st 4001 geomancer Karana)
There are so many new characters in Rai but I think those are the most important at this moment
Also I think we need to add the 2 best Shadowman issues
Shadowman #0 (origin of Master Darque, 1st VEI Sandria)
Shadowman #10 (origin of VEI Shadowman)
Rai #1 (1st VEI Rai, 1st Lula Lee, 1st Momo, 1st VEI Spylocke, 1st 4001 Silk)

Re: Key Valiant Entertainment Issues
Good heavens, where are all the Imperium characters?
Imperium #1 (first Sunlight on Snow or Mech Major)
Imperium #2 (first LV-99)
Imperium #2 (first Angela Peace Baingana)
Imperium #2 (first Gravedog)
Imperium #4 (first Other-dimensional creatures that steal eyes and inhabit bodies)
I recall bringing these up, perhaps it was in another thread.
Issue numbers need to be verified. I simply searched the 'Published issues" thread for first references on the board. But I think they're correct.
