Supply vs. Demand. You want to own a complete copy of Spidey 1? So do 10000 others...
whetteon wrote:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 2276514469

Market is out of control. I almost got an Amazing Spidey #1 in 4.0 for $1,000 back in 2001 for $1,000 but couldn't raise the money quite fast enough. Looks like I was a freaking market genius three years later. 400% increase? I find it funny that the people who biaotch the most about how the 90's "screwing them over" are the exact same ones today pimping out books with ridiculous high reserves that just came out last week.

Stop the insanity please! :!:

Except, this one is described as X-O Manowar #1 and starts at $9.99.

Here's the actual text of the auction (not) :
X-O MANOWAR COMIC BOOK MADE BY VALIAN (not) COMICS. USED BUT IN VERY GOOD CONDITION (not).
GOOD FOR COLLECTORS (not). THE VERY FIRST ISSUE (not) IN AUGUST OF 1993!!!#1 (not) OF VOLUME 1.

Hehe, I like the guy's class of books, Antiquarian. Hmmm. 1993 antique?

And he's listed this 3 times already. Can't learn. When you relist, you're supposed to LOWER the minimum bid to entice bidders.

Oh I'm sure that he overheard somebody or read something that said Valiant is getting hot again, so he figures this one must be valuable. Too bad he can't take two seconds out his day to find out which ones are actually worth money.

not Valiant, but I had a problem today with a seller about some Tank Girl comics. I won 11 books for a penny each and another for six cents so total eBay price was 17 cents. Shipping was listed as $5 for media mail but they mentioned they would give a discount for combined shipping. Their idea of a discount was $5 for the first book plus $3 for each additional book! :!:  :?

Total was supposed to be $38.17, so $38 of that was for "shipping and handling". That makes neatstuff look reasonable! Naturally, I tried to get a more reasonable shipping amount, to which they refused. They decided to relist the books. Their user ID is lambdawholesale. You probably don't need to worry about seeing it again as I think this was a one time only sale of comics for this person, but I thought I should mention it, anyway.

And no, I'm not leaving them negative feedback because I don't want the negs back in return, so don't even suggest that I do so. :sumo:

Leave it one day before you can no longer leave feedback.

Actually, the 90 days is a soft deadline to leave feedback. As long as you have the auction #, you may be able to leave feedback over 100 days later.

Not anymore.

Check it out.

This used to be true for years, but it is no longer...even IF the auction is still up, after SOME time period (and only eBay knows what it actually is, it may, in fact, be exactly 90 days to the minute once more) you can't leave feedback. I just tried last night, and I was 110 days into the time frame. Same about a week ago, and only 97 days in.

I wish airfare was a lot cheaper or I had a lot more money and time, sometimes I'd just love to visit some of these eBay ripoff artists in person and see them try to explain their behavior. For the kind of money this person was suggesting I spend for postage, I think I should expecting 12 individual well packed boxes each with one comic inside, all shipped at least first class mail.

My last win wasn't any better, bought three underground comics, all three described as being in "excellent" condition. One had a huge triangle ripped out of the front cover and the other looked like someone wiped their *SQUEE* with it, all creased, wrinkled and dirty. The third wasn't NM by any means but was good enough. Had to get a partial refund for those books, at least he was pretty quick about it.

Even when things go right, they can be a close call. I won three different I, Lusiphur issues and received them only packaged in two large white envelopes, no cardboard backing whatsoever. Somehow they made it here without any major damage.

It's amazing how people can sell stuff on eBay and just be so dumb. :!:

 OFF, thanks for bearing with me!

Wow. This guy thinks $6.40 PER COPY for mostly 80's and 90's books is a 'fair deal'?

I think maybe the decimal point is in the wrong place. He meant to put $730. ;) Sure, it's got a nice Teen Titans run...but it's Teen Titans! There are a few minor keys from the mid Silver Age, but no major books, nothing earth shattering, and yet...$73,000? Wow. Crack smoking.

Sorry, but 80's and 90's books in lots like that sell for between 5-20 cents a copy. That's just the cold, hard reality of wholesale comics.

And look...they'll deliver to you for free! How generous!

The REAL crime, of course, is that eBay makes a FORTUNE over these insane auctions that no one will ever buy, because (A) people who WOULD pay crazy money for something usually don't HAVE this kind of crazy money, and (B) the people who DO have this kind of money have it because they don't spend crazy money on crap like this. ;)

I don't think I ever remember an auction page taking that long to load up. It just kept going and going. A lot of the books that he has pictures of look pretty rough so I really can't imagine anyone buying this for no where near the price he is asking, which is too bad because he sure put a lot of work into it.

I take back the 'no major keys' bit, they DO have a single X-Men #1 in what looks to be G/VG to VG condition. ;)

Still nowhere NEAR $73,000.

On the one hand, we have idiot sellers trying to sell Spiderman Unlimited for $399.

On the other, we have...well...this.

This is a $50-75 book, easily. Maybe even $100.

When sellers list books with absurdly low BINs, they rob others of the chance to bid, and they rob themselves of a fair market price.

BINs are generally bad, always have been, always will be. For the 2-3 'deals' I have gotten, I have seen dozens and dozens and dozens of auctions that ended with a BIN within hours of listing, for some ridiculously low price...which hurts not only the SELLER, but EBAY as well!

Sorry to be chiming in here so late but I found this thread to be hilarious, especially after running across the Hulk 181 Reprint you found.

Apparently this guy is "into" junk. Looks like he stiffed the guy on PMT tho.

It's in PERFECT CONDITION!

Well, uh, except that it's not.
The bigger question for me in this auction is what the heck's up with that back cover? That looks to be from a Marvel Milestone Edition because it says Facsimilie Advertisement at the bottom.

Very interesting way to describe a free promo card that deallers were given tons of. I know the store I worked at had a few hundred and we gave them out to customers for free.

That was one of my favorite comic cards too. I lost my old one and SonicDan gave me a new Mint Condition one when I purchased some items from him a couple of months ago. So I figure they can't be all that rare unless SonicDan just likes giving me all the good stuff for free

This guy is hilarious. 'Really needs a reappraisal'.

Check out those four...count them, FOUR...large pieces cut/torn out of the front cover. ;)

Reappraisal...to what, 1.0?
