Just for an example:
WD #69 had 23,695 sold in Jan 2010
WD #25 had 19,331 sold in Jan 2006
WD #15 had 15,461 sold in Feb 2005
WD #5 had 8,829 sold in March 2004

And how many of these books got destroyed, given away, thrown away? Even a year ago I was getting a bunch of these in $1 bins, like a lot. Now stores have like issue #55 for like $8 if they even have them.
The topic of the destruction or otherwise "lost" comics has always intrigued me. Take Bloodshot: Last Stand, for example, because there you have an "estimated" 7.5K copies, right? I've seen them go for as little as 10 to as much as 45. The very fact there are only "about" 7.5K means that there are less than 7.5K complete runs of standard issue Valiant to be had out there. How many got lost or damaged? 500? 1.5k? Let's say 6.8K are still around. Given the way people hoard, I'm going to say that means less than 6.5K runs are to be had. In the case of TWD, that # 5 is the lowest print run. So, we're looking at probably 8K or less potential runs to be had. Paying 8 or more for those early books isn't out of the realm of reason, given the scarcity + demand.

WD #1 was 7,266 in Oct 2003!

One of these just ended last week or so ago at $780ish!

The "lost" comic situation is also very interesting to me. Especially books like the end run Valiants. I think the number of the books in collection/circulation is much lower than the #s estimate. So many of these books were tossed/destroyed/in the back of storage units NEVER to get out.

I would add to that that I have had more than one comic retailer tell me that they have their Valiants, Acclaims, and other Independent comics in storage units because they weren't selling and the retail store needed the space.

I'm seeing the same thing on the other coast. Copies that were sitting in back issue bins of just random issues in the 30s and up are all gone. If any issues make it to back issue bins, they are marked up.

Yeah. I was giving a conservative estimate of 500-2K lost/damaged per book for those end run Valiants. Given how scarce they are, it wouldn't shock me if 40-70% of them are gone for good.

I think the last bloodshot and solar are the hardest to find in great shape, no one cared for a long time so they took a beating, i have some of each, but less then a lot of other good stuff.

I've noticed Walking Dead exploding and going nuts.

I just sold a copy of 63 (Chew preview in back) for about $12, and as I was looking through books, I saw runs of 60-70 going for like $100. That's crazy crazy crazy. I would expect runs like that to be $15 to $25, max.

The weeklies are also nuts. If I'd only invested about $10k in walking dead a few years ago...

I'm digging through the boxes hoping for a set of the weeklies up to 30 issues so far, then off to the bay.

A VFNM Web of Spider-Man 119 goes for 24.99 plus shipping on the Bay. That's the first Kaine. No single copies are available there at the moment, the first time I believe that's been the case in a long, long time.

Issue #2 of the new Daredevil series has sold for around $20 regularly.

Also complete runs (I think they're 8 issues is) are going for 40-50 bucks.

Wow. I thought # 5 was the lowest. Oh well. No wonder the 1st goes for so much.
On the earliest books, I think the 2nd printing of issue #2 is actually the lowest print. :hm:

Probably. They aren't up for sale nearly as much as any of the other early issues.

Ebay. I'd be surprised if many local shops had early TWD issues. Either they are too liquid or they sell them on ebay.

Ebay. I would be absolutely shocked if ANY early Walking dead books are in back issue bins. But I did find a #4, #6 and 2 #7s this week. But they were not in a typical back issue bin. But I was stoked to get them.
