Me neither, but I did buy the first three issues back in the 90s.MarkRoseHFX wrote:What? really? I've never even read that beforejmatt wrote:So now we have to review X, too?Shadowman99 wrote:... taking ten minutes of our day to write down our thoughts on 'X' comic...

I thought the deadline was August 30 for some reason, not September 30. I got out of bed early this morning to crank these out. Now I have another month. Excellent.

Re: ROUND #2 NYCC CON EXCLUSIVE - LIMITED TO FIRST 50 MEMBER

I realise it is very helpful to Valiant for us to help spread the word and I wanted to be part of it to help give back as it were, but I really had fun doing these, as I re-read each volume, previously I had read the single issues, and this time found I picked up so many little things I had missed the first times I read these issues.
These stories are really something special.
Cheers Valiant

I know this is a ways down the road, but I'm very curious how this fan base is going to rate Shadowman Vol 2: Darque Reckoning when it comes out in November. That's the arc that seemed to catch the most criticism, and I want to see if our rating will reflect that. We want people to read Valiant, but we also wanna shoot straight. Tough line to walk.

Re: ROUND #2 NYCC CON EXCLUSIVE - LIMITED TO FIRST 50 MEMBER
I'm sure I wouldn't give it 5 stars. But maybe 4 if it's lucky. It's not that it's HORRIBLE or anything, especially when compared with some of the other *SQUEE* out there on the comic book shelves. But it's doing noticably worse than the other Valiant titles and suffers by comparison. Also, it's just not living up to what many feel is it's potential. There have been little glimpses of what this title COULD be, but it hasn't come together yet. So I'll probably give it a 4, but maybe a 3. I may have to go back and reread that arc by itself before reviewing it to double check.tchalla8 wrote:I know this is a ways down the road, but I'm very curious how this fan base is going to rate Shadowman Vol 2: Darque Reckoning when it comes out in November. Thank you, I was a bit worried I might have waffled on a bit, but after all, they are only our opinions.

Re: ROUND #2 NYCC CON EXCLUSIVE - LIMITED TO FIRST 50 MEMBER
That's a good question, but for me anyhow, I really enjoyed the issues in 'Darque Reckoning', it is showing that Jack's negligence can have deadly repercussions for those around him, and he will have to do some growing up as it were. For mine I actually enjoyed the second arc as much as the first.tchalla8 wrote:I know this is a ways down the road, but I'm very curious how this fan base is going to rate Shadowman Vol 2: Darque Reckoning when it comes out in November. I will have to read more about the critical response, but I was more worried about where they go from now.
Soon find out I guess

Re: ROUND #2 NYCC CON EXCLUSIVE - LIMITED TO FIRST 50 MEMBER
On this one I was the complete opposite, I thought that it was very clever how they introduced Gilad from an outsider's viewpoint. We were being introduced to the character at the same time as Archer. I know Gilad seemed a bit intense but we were able to view him in this way that it would make us think "who is this dangerous maniac", until such times as we come to know him better in his own series.hawkeyeps wrote:tchalla8 wrote:

As I don't read Q & W I can't speak for them, but I guess the weakest ratings I have given so far would be for Bloodshot, but in saying that, I am still very much enjoying that series.

My problem with that issue is I remember there being very little in the way of character development.Peter wrote:On this one I was the complete opposite, I thought that it was very clever how they introduced Gilad from an outsider's viewpoint. Just be honest. I'm gonna give it maybe three stars. But if you think about it, as someone reading those reviews, I think it would lend credence to all the other 4 and 5 star reviews if fans are also honest enough to show when they think something is less than spectacular.tchalla8 wrote:I know this is a ways down the road, but I'm very curious how this fan base is going to rate Shadowman Vol 2: Darque Reckoning when it comes out in November. Just wrote my first! Did I do it right? Is it long enough?
------------
Bloodshot volume one: setting the world on fire
Summary: an action packed, beautifully illustrated, intense journey to find truth and peace.
This trade features one of the most memorable covers of Valiant year one. Bloodshot, head bowed with two pistols raised, bleeds from an open chest wound onto a table in front of him. The blood forms stripes, seemingly of an American flag. You immediately know that bloodshot is somehow intertwined with the American government and that he is a wet-works operative. Such a strong image. SPOILER ALERT: It turns out to be a very misleading image. Bloodshot is no black ops officer, he is the brainwashed murderous hit man of Project Rising Spirit. Cue the mystery. What is PRS? Why do they need a hit man? Why are they massacring scientist in a failed nano-mite experiment? Who is this psiot (Valiant's take on mutants basically) girl with an electromagnetic pulse? Why did PRS lock her in their basement for 3 years?
Having read the first three arcs in single issue form, and just now returned to re-read the trades, I have to say... Duane Swiercyznski wove an intricate tapestry from issue #1. Knowing the answers to most of these questions (after reading the first three arcs) made re-reading the first arc that much more enjoyable. There are clues everywhere and it's obvious Duane knew exactly where his story was going.
Bloodshot is full of mystery, action, and gore. Manuel Garcia's beautiful illustrations depict a bone crunching, limb severing, flesh ripping good time. If you enjoy high energy, fast tempo, action packed mysteries, then Bloodshot is right up your alley.

I guess I really wasn't expecting much in the way of character development to be honest, I was expecting more of that in his own title.
I think we saw more about Aram's relationship toward him rather, but I had a good laugh at their interactions.

Re: ROUND #2 NYCC CON EXCLUSIVE - LIMITED TO FIRST 50 MEMBER
I meant that more along the lines of the development of any character. I'd much prefer a decent amount of development of plot or character than a fight or a chase any day. At least in the latest X-O we had some of that as the two were going at it.Peter wrote:I guess I really wasn't expecting much in the way of character development to be honest, I was expecting more of that in his own title.kjjohanson wrote:My problem with that issue is I remember there being very little in the way of character development.Peter wrote:On this one I was the complete opposite, I thought that it was very clever how they introduced Gilad from an outsider's viewpoint.
