Well the comics may be over priced but the seller does have the right to try to sell them for whatever they want. Its as much the buyers responsibility to check out the price. No one is forcing anyone to buy them.
If your into buying older comics for collecting you should have a price guide to give you an idea of the selling prices so you can check.

No one has EVER said....in the entire HISTORY of Hall of Shame threads....that sellers don't have the right to list for what they want.Richv1 wrote:Well the comics may be over priced but the seller does have the right to try to sell them for whatever they want. Ever.
Not even once.
Never.
So, it's SOOOOOOOO not about them not being able to.
I have the right to stand on the street corner, in the snow, in my underwear, and sing I'm a Little Teapot at the top of my lungs for as long as I want.
I have the right to do that.
That doesn't mean it's wise, prudent, or intelligent.
There's also the hint....just a HINT, mind you....of fraud.
An unsuspecting buyer stumbles across it, and....BECAUSE it's given LEGITIMACY by being an eBay auction (a valid point)...they may think "oh, well it's on eBay, so it must not be a horrible deal"....and they get suckered into paying $60 for a $1.25 set of books.
And that's wrong.
The buyer should know?
The buyer isn't always the collector.
It could be grandma trying to get something nice for little Bobby or Cindy.
So, they seller has the RIGHT to list them for a million dollars. That doesn't mean it's the wise, prudent, or even ETHICAL thing to do.
And it just plain makes the seller look like an imbecile to people who know better.
I wouldn't DREAM of listing a...I dunno, let's pull something out of my butt....a Tony the Tiger™ Beany Baby™ for $50,000, even though I have no CLUE what they're worth (does such a thing even exist?)
Why?
Because I have enough sense to at LEAST do some cursory homework beforehand, and even if I didn't, I would start it at nothing, because there are few real steals on eBay.
No one's getting a Daredevil #1 for $10 in VF. It's not different in most other categories.
Sellers who ask stupid, gouging, insane prices for nonsense deserve to be mocked, period. If they don't like it, they can stop doing that for which they are mocked.

Yes you can point out that they are charging to much. Of course for ever seller charging way to high prices there are ones that are fair.
I've bought a fair amount of comics that were over the one hundred price range. And I think on all of them I was charged a fair price.
But yes there are some and I've met one taht are out just to make as much money as they can.

People who don't know how to grade.danthecomicman wrote:Check out the bonus CGC'd comic offered in this auction - what possessed someone to submit a 7.0 modern????

Or, people so used to overgrading, they think it's "MINT!"
I will bet you a million dollars that the submitter would have sold that book as a raw "NM/M!" and was SHOCKED that CGC gave it a 7.0.
A million dollars I'd bet on that.

Send me your address and I'll send you the package that I was going to send to Depluto. NOW it's ripe.
Often it's the same person using two sets of grading criteria.Richv1 wrote:Of course people trying to SELL the book will be grading it higher than someone trying to BUY the comic might. Now if both used exactly the same way of looking at the comic and both were fair than there would be no problem.

Hey, at least it proves we don't hold grudges on non-monetary issues.

I remember that. You were strung up because you had made some small mistake in setting up eBay's automatic postage calculater. That might have made you a bit sensitive on your first day. I'm sure glad you were generous enough to over-look that unfortunate and still ongoing aspect of the boards. At least we were a few that defended you that time. Thanks for being such a great part of the community.jedimarley wrote:And all on my first day here!

Yes, it was entirely our fault, because we were mind readers who knew beforehand that Jedi had made the mistake which showed S&H to be some outrageous amount, and we were just looking to humiliate someone WITHOUT NEED or JUSTIFICATION. Obviously, we were just looking for someone to "string up", without cause.
Ooooo-K!

Jedi goofed on the S&H. It was NOT a "small" mistake. It showed the S&H for a couple of comics to be $20 or more. That may be a small TECHNICAL mistake, but it certainly wasn't a small APPEARING mistake.
We (and I mean specifically ME, since *I* was the one who brought it to the board) had no way of knowing that it was a MISTAKE, and were perfectly justified in bringing it to the board's attention so that, JUST IN CASE Jedi WAS a swindler, no one would bid unaware. That is a great deal of the PURPOSE behind this thread, to alert the otherwise unwary into not falling into someone's trap. It's not just to point and laugh, although there is a lot of that that goes on, too.
It is only in HINDSIGHT that we now know Jedi wasn't trying to screw anyone, and that it was just a mistake on his part, which he cleared up, and OBVIOUSLY didn't remain an issue, as is witnessed by his contribution to this community.
But way to put a nice backhanded spin on it, Mags, and slap everyone who commented! THAT'S the right way to bring harmony and unity to the boards!

I, for one, am glad you (Jedi) EXPLAINED the mistake, and that it WAS a mistake and not an intentional attempt, LIKE SO MANY ON EBAY DO, to rip someone else off.
I do not call pointing out Auction Hall of Shames "unfortunate", but, RATHER, a VERY important means of communicating to our little community here about the frauds and swindlers that we all KNOW inhabit eBay.
Thanks, Jedi, for sticking it out! You've certainly been a great compadre in my book! This one's for you ---->
